About Opendoor
At Opendoor our mission is to tilt the world in favor of homeowners and those who aim to become one. Homeownership matters. It's how people build wealth, stability, and community. It's how families put down roots, how neighborhoods strengthen, how the future gets built. We're building the modern system of homeownership giving people the freedom to buy and sell on their own terms. We’ve built an end-to-end online experience that has already helped thousands of people and we’re just getting started.
About the role
We're seeking an exceptional Senior Tax Manager to join our Tax team. The ideal candidate brings deep Canadian tax expertise, meaningful cross-border experience, and a forward-looking mindset around AI-driven practice improvement. You'll own the Canadian tax function while contributing as a real part of the global tax team — bringing sound technical judgment and the initiative to make the function faster and better than you found it.
What you'll do
Canadian Tax
- Own Canadian corporate income tax compliance — oversee the full compliance process across all required schedules and applicable provincial jurisdictions, and ensure quality and accuracy at every stage
- Own GST/HST and applicable provincial indirect tax compliance
- Maintain transfer pricing documentation and intercompany agreements — ensuring positions are technically sound, contemporaneous, and defensible under tax authority scrutiny; advise Finance and Legal on cross-border arrangements before decisions are made, not after
- Own the Canadian component of tax reporting, coordinating with the US team
- Stay ahead of Canadian tax change — federal, provincial, Pillar Two — and translate what matters into decisions Finance can act on before the deadline, not after
- Own the tax authority relationship: respond to correspondence and see inquiries through to resolution
US Tax
- Flex into US income tax provision, federal and state compliance review, and month-end close as a meaningful contributor — not just backup capacity, but a senior person who can carry real workload when it counts
- Contribute to public company tax reporting on a shared basis with the broader team
AI-Driven Tax Practice
- Reach for AI first — use Claude, Claude Code, and similar tools to accelerate research, draft technical memos, analyze notices, run calculations, and design repeatable workflows.
- Default to AI, don’t defer to it. The tools give you leverage; the work is still yours. Every output you put your name on — whether it’s a written position, a calculation, or a workflow result — is something you can explain and stand behind
- Tax work is multi-layered — some steps demand deep judgment, others not as much. Map the difference. Automate what's mechanical, build structured workflows for what's in between, and protect your focus for the analysis and positions that actually require you
What You'll Need
- 10+ years of Canadian tax expertise, with a track record of being a senior Canadian tax voice in the room — the person others deferred to on technical questions
- Background at a major accounting firm in a Canadian corporate or international tax group
- Multinational tax experience — you’ve worked across US and Canadian tax obligations and understand how cross-border arrangements function in practice, not just in documentation
- Transfer pricing expertise beyond documentation review — you understand what makes a position defensible and you’ve had to defend one
- The ability to translate complex technical positions into clear, actionable guidance — you know the technically correct answer and you know which version of it the business should actually implement
- Meaningful US tax experience — sufficient to flex into provision, compliance, or month-end close and carry real workload during crunch periods
- CPA (Canada) or equivalent
- A track record of making the tax function faster and lighter than you found it — not just maintaining what exists, but leaving it better
- You've rebuilt something because of AI and it runs faster now. When something new lands, you don't prompt and paste — you interrogate it, pressure-test it, and know exactly where it's wrong before anyone else does
Bonus Points
- Public company experience
- Experience at a technology company or business with material cross-border activity
- Familiarity with NetSuite, Snowflake, or similar finance and accounting platforms
