Senior Tax Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION
As our global footprint expands, we are seeking a progressive and forward-thinking tax leader to join our finance team as a Senior Manager overseeing our tax matters in the EMEA region. In this pivotal role you will have the opportunity to lead a team of two people, with a direct reporting line to the US Headquarters Tax Department in Chicago, Illinois USA.
This role will manage various tax compliance, tax accounting, tax audit and strategy matters in UL Solution's EMEA region, including Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Spain, France, and the UK. The person should have extensive tax technical experience with both income taxes and indirect taxes (VAT) within the EMEA region and keep up to date on tax technology skills to help implement advanced automated solutions that drive efficiencies. This role will be a hybrid-based position from our Arnhem office in the Netherlands
RESPONSIBILITIES

• Quarterly and year-end review of EMEA legal entity income tax provisions in accordance with US and local statutory GAAP and support local accounting teams with related tax accounting work including reconciliations of income tax payable accounts and return-to-provision computations.
• Stay current on tax law changes and complex tax technical matters that are relevant to ULS across the EMEA region.
• Ensure analytics and accuracy of the effective tax rate components and deferred tax balances for EMEA affiliate entities and identify tax risks that may require tax reserves.
• Manage the EMEA income tax compliance process by collaborating with outsourced tax preparers/advisors to file local country income tax returns on an accurate and timely basis.
• Regional oversight and management of local country tax audits (both income tax and indirect tax/VAT) as required and in partnership with local accounting teams, the Senior Director of Tax Planning and Director overseeing transfer pricing (both located in the US) to best position the Company for successful audit resolutions.
• Assist with cash tax forecasting for UL Solution's EMEA affiliate entities.
• Tracking and budgeting of regional municipality taxes, business licenses taxes/fees and certain tax professional fees.
• Champion operational excellence through process improvement, leveraging best practices, supporting the evolution of tax software tools, and promoting automation and technology to enhance efficiency and scalability.
• Lead the EMEA Tax Team with a growth mentality, and mentor team members to promote a high-performance culture emphasizing collaboration, professional development, and analytical thinking.
• Support the Corporate Tax Headquarters team and/or cross-functional teams on tax planning, internal restructurings, and new business initiatives as needed.
• Communicate and explain tax results to executive leadership in a concise and comprehendible manner.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal partners and peers in accounting/finance, external consultants, and statutory auditors.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a tax-related field. A master's in tax or a comparable advanced degree is preferred.
• 8+ years of diverse tax experience in a fast-paced environment, with a preference for Big 4 accounting firm experience and/or US-based multinational companies reporting under US GAAP.
• Strong understanding of VAT and common income tax compliance matters.
• Strong knowledge of tax accounting rules and tax provision computations (US GAAP and/or IFRS preferred).
• Experience with managing automated processes and using tax technology effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to be direct, resourceful, meticulous, and results-driven.
• Experience in leading, managing, developing, and motivating team members.
• Strong ability to multi-task, effective project management skills and ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams in different locations.
• Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills to convey complex tax matters with simplicity and clarity to non-experts across the organization.
