JOB DESCRIPTION FOR A SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
Responsibilities as a Senior Tax Accountant:
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Conduct variance analysis to identify and explain discrepancies.
• Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
• Oversee and manage the general ledger accounting functions.
• Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
• Perform regular reconciliations of accounts, including bank and credit card reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits, including those conducted by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
• Prepare and file Business Activity Statements (BAS) and annual tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
• Handle GST, PAYG, FBT, and other regulatory filings as required.
• Oversee payroll processing and ensure accurate and timely payment to employees in compliance with Fair Work Australia regulations.
• Manage employee benefit plans and related accounting.
• Supervise the accounts payable and receivable functions.
• Ensure timely processing of invoices and collections.
Qualifications as a Senior Tax Accountant:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• 3 to 5 years’ experience preparing Financial Statements for various Australian entities
• 3 to 5 years’ experience preparing Australian Tax Returns for various entities
• Proven experience with Xero and Spotlight Reporting.
• Strong knowledge of AASB and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency in Office 365 applications.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• High level of integrity and professionalism.
