About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to manage Australian individual tax compliance while developing specialist capability in expatriate and non-resident taxation. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns, providing tax planning support, managing ATO correspondence, mentoring junior accountants, and delivering high-quality client service.

Addition to that structured training will be provided to support progression into an Expat Tax Specialist role within the first 12 months.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review Australian expatriates and non-resident individuals income tax returns and related documents in accordance with ATO requirements.
  •  Assist with tax planning strategies to help clients minimize their tax liabilities.
  • Review and interpret financial records, including income statements and deductions
  • Ensure tax returns and supporting documentation are accurate, complete, and lodged within required deadlines.
  • Prepare amendments, objections, and responses to tax assessments where required.
  • Liaise with the ATO on behalf of clients.
  • Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential client records.
  • Keep up to date with changes in Australian tax laws and regulations.
  • Interpreting Double Tax Agreements (DTAs) and providing tax structuring solutions
  • Conducting residency assessments and delivering strategic

  • Liaising with the ATO on behalf of clients
  • Contributing to internal knowledge development and mentoring team members

RequirementsRequired Experience
  • Al least three years of relevant Australian tax experience (resident or non-resident returns)
  • Experience working in a high-volume accounting or outsourcing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of rental property taxation, client documentation, depreciation, and capital allowances
  • Hands-on experience with ATO systems(prefill, notices, amendments)
Favorable Experience
  • Experience using Australian tax software like HandiTax, Xero Tax, or Class Super.
  • Experience in Australian taxation, including Australian tax software, residency rules, foreign income, foreign tax offsets, and non-resident tax returns. 
  • Understanding of rental schedule calculations for Australian property.
  • Data handling or client onboarding experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with team members in different time zones.
  • Experience in a client-facing tax or accounting role.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Completion of tax processing or bookkeeping certifications is a plus.
  • Working towards CA/CPA or other professional qualification (not essential).
Required Skills
  • Strong technical knowledge of Australian tax law (resident & non-resident)
  • Strong time management and ability to perform under pressure (especially tax season)
  • Strong foundation in accounting principles and tax fundamentals.
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and cloud-based document handling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for client interaction
  • Organised, reliable, and able to manage workload autonomously.
