The Role
Lead system-level engineering for battery programs from requirements through architecture, integration, verification, and supplier coordination. The Role

As a Senior Systems Engineer I, you are an internally recognized technical expert and the go-to engineer others turn to for learning and mentoring. You take the system lead role on customer and internal battery programs — owning the journey from requirements through architecture, integration, and verification — and lead programs where the problem is defined but the solution is non-obvious, requiring engineering experimentation, in-depth trade-off analysis, and an eye for the strategic implications of design decisions.

What You’ll Do (Impact Areas)
  • Lead at the system level: take the system lead role on customer and internal programs, provide technical leadership across project teams, and lead engineering development meetings that influence the direction of others.
  • Own requirements & validation: lead reviews and negotiations of customer specifications, industry and regulatory standards, and internal design guidelines to establish product electrical requirements; lead requirement analysis and validation planning in line with automotive functional safety and ASPICE — without guidance; lead workgroups to collect, analyze, and cascade system requirements; and refine performance and design-constraint requirements against feasibility and optimization.
  • Define the system architecture: define system architecture including sizing and cell selection based on the core product portfolio; cascade requirements to engineering disciplines and subsystems; allocate performance and limiting requirements across functional levels; define component and discipline interfaces; and assign subsystem/component ownership and release responsibility.
  • Drive design & risk management: moderate the system-level DFMEA and coordinate it with subsystem and component FMEAs; direct the specification and design of all battery components — mechanical, electrical, software, and electronics — managing trade-offs between them; and review designs for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Lead suppliers & sourcing: mentor the development of supplier relationships to generate component specifications, lead make-vs-buy analysis with functional groups, and lead suppliers to deliver components to specification.
  • Integrate, verify & control change: review system work packages and test results in support of design verification; define the system integration strategy and lead system integration and testing; and lead engineering change request and change order activities.
  • Document & standardize: define and document system engineering processes and maintain a sensible archive of engineering documentation — calculations, drawings, intellectual property, DFMEAs, validation reports, meeting minutes, trip reports, and customer communication.
  • Develop people: coach and lead the development of others, serving as a go-to mentor for fellow engineers.
What Success Looks Like
  • Clear, validated, and traceable system requirements established across customer specifications, standards, and internal guidelines.
  • A well-defined system architecture — with sizing, cell selection, and ownership cleanly cascaded to every discipline and subsystem.
  • Programs led to cross-functional and leadership alignment, even when the solution path is non-obvious.
  • Suppliers delivering components to specification, backed by sound make-vs-buy decisions.
  • Successful system integration and verification, supported by rigorous documentation and repeatable engineering processes.
  • Other engineers growing through your mentoring and technical leadership.
Core Competencies
  • Internally recognized technical expertise and a reputation as the go-to engineer for learning and mentoring.
  • Leadership of programs with defined problems but non-obvious solutions — comfortable with experimentation, in-depth trade-off analysis, and weighing strategic design implications.
  • Clear communication of technical topics across functions and leadership to achieve alignment and buy-in.
  • Deep systems engineering rigor across requirements, architecture, integration, and verification.
  • Working command of automotive functional safety and ASPICE processes.
  • Strength in DFMEA, design for manufacturability, supplier management, and make-vs-buy analysis.
What You Bring (Qualifications)

Minimum Experience (one of the following)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with proven industry experience (10+ years); or
  • Technical Master’s degree (thesis track or equivalent) in a related field with proven industry experience (4–15 years); or
  • Scientifically relevant Ph.D. from a technically rigorous program and institution with technically related experience (2–11 years).
