The RoleReporting to the Group Reporting Manager, the Senior Sustainability Lead will be responsible for establishing, leading and continuously improving Heidelberg Materials Australia's sustainability reporting capability. The role serves as the organisation's sustainability reporting subject matter expert, ensuring reporting is accurate, auditable, decision-useful and supported by robust governance, data quality and internal controls.
You will lead mandatory and internal sustainability reporting requirements, including climate disclosures, greenhouse gas emissions reporting, sustainability submissions and broader ESG reporting initiatives while partnering closely with Finance, Sustainability, Risk and Operations stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of sustainability reporting requirements, including ASRS/AASB S2 climate-related disclosures, Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions reporting, NGER reporting and Heidelberg Materials AG sustainability submissions.
- Develop and embed sustainability reporting policies, frameworks, methodologies, reporting calendars and internal controls.
- Establish auditable data collection, validation and reconciliation processes across energy, procurement, operations, transport, HR, finance and other business systems.
- Lead emissions reporting capability, including methodologies, emissions factors, organisational boundaries and ongoing enhancement of Scope 3 reporting processes.
- Act as the key sustainability reporting SME for management and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Partner with Finance and Group Reporting to integrate sustainability reporting into broader reporting governance and assurance activities.
- Lead preparation for internal and external assurance, including evidence packs, controls documentation and audit responses.
- Monitor emerging sustainability reporting standards and regulatory developments, assessing impacts on the organisation.
- Drive process improvement, reporting transformation and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency, consistency and data integrity.
- Lead, coach and develop Sustainability Analysts, building capability across the team.
- Prepare executive reporting, stakeholder communications and governance papers for senior management and assurance providers.
You are a strategic and technically capable sustainability professional who thrives in complex reporting environments. You enjoy building frameworks, improving processes and partnering with stakeholders to deliver meaningful sustainability outcomes.
Experience & Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Finance or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in sustainability, ESG, climate, carbon or non-financial reporting. Experience within construction materials, infrastructure, manufacturing, resources, property or energy sectors will be highly regarded.
- Strong technical grounding in accounting, audit, assurance, governance, controls or regulatory reporting.
- Experience using Power BI, ESG reporting platforms, workflow tools, SAP or other enterprise systems is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of ASRS, AASB S2 and climate disclosure frameworks, with exposure to GHG Protocol, ISSB, TCFD, SBTi and NGER requirements.
- Experience in developing reporting frameworks, methodologies, controls and assurance-ready documentation.
- Advanced analytical capability and experience managing large, complex datasets.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and translate technical requirements for diverse audiences.
- Experience coaching, mentoring or leading team members.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-evolving regulatory environment.
