Who is Plenti?

Plenti is a fintech lender, providing faster, fairer loans by leveraging its smart technology. Plenti is a dynamic and innovative business that is growing strongly. By continuing to deliver better customer experiences, Plenti is taking market share from incumbent players in the personal lending, renewable energy, and automotive finance markets.

We are a fast moving and ambitious business that seeks to recruit smart and capable people, who can take ownership of their role to help the business thrive. With over 250 people based in Australia, Plenti is of a size where everyone can make a difference in their role and help us realise our very big ambitions as a team, as we go about building Australia’s best lender.

Plenti is a founder led business that launched in 2014, listed on the ASX since 2020 with annual revenue of over $250 million and a loan portfolio of over $2.5 billion.

About the Role:
The Senior Staff Software Engineer is a principal-level individual contributor and the foremost technical authority within a critical business or technology domain. This role transcends project-level execution to own the long-term technical health, scalability, and strategic evolution of our most complex systems. The Senior Staff Engineer combines the exemplary execution capabilities of a Staff Engineer with deep, authoritative domain ownership, acting as a technical pillar for the organisation by setting the vision for their area and cultivating deep expertise in others.

Key Responsibilities:
Domain Ownership & Vision: Own and articulate the long-term technical vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for a critical and complex domain, ensuring it is prepared for future business needs
Architectural Stewardship: Act as the primary architectural authority for your domain. You will make key design decisions to ensure its solutions are scalable, resilient, and sustainable, while ensuring these decisions align with—and help evolve—the broader organisational standards and patterns championed by the Software Architect
Lead Foundational Projects: Lead the hands-on design and implementation of foundational projects that are technically ambiguous, high-risk, or fundamentally refactor the core logic of your domain
Exemplary Project Execution: Perform all duties of a Staff Engineer, such as leading complex projects (both within and outside your domain), solving ambiguous problems, and ensuring high-quality delivery
Cultivate Deep Expertise: Mentor other senior and staff-level engineers to build deep domain expertise, effectively acting as the "chief educator" for your systems and business logic
Set the Technical Bar: Drive technical excellence and champion best practices within your domain, setting the standard for quality, performance, and operational readiness

About You:
● 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of becoming a recognised expert in a complex software domain
● Demonstrated experience in leading the architecture and rewrite of complex, business-critical systems
● Mastery of full-stack development in .NET (C#) and proficiency in modern front-end technologies (e.g., React)
● Deep, authoritative knowledge of event-driven architectures, microservices, and domain-driven design principles, and a history of applying them to solve major architectural challenges
● Exceptional and deep domain knowledge in a relevant business area
● Proven ability to mentor other senior engineers effectively and influence technical direction through expertise
● Strong understanding of database management (SQL Server/PostgreSQL) and cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS)
