It is an exciting time to be at GEICO as we transform the insurance business and build a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, with a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement. We are seeking experienced engineers with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, and zero-downtime systems to help us build a Payments Platform from the ground up.
You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in their domain.
Responsibilities
- Define the engineering direction and roadmap for the new Payments Platform that aligns with business goals.
- Lead the development of our Payments Platform meeting goals for security, resilience, compliance and correctness.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster a culture of constant learning.
- Hold a high bar on technical decision making, and setting a standard for engineering artifacts that the team creates, such as code and design docs.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential impact on the payments engineering domain and making recommendations for adoption.
- Triage and resolve service disruptions, and build industry standard mechanism for prevention and self-healing.
- Influence and educate leadership at all levels.
Qualifications
- Deep hands-on experience in full stack system design and implementation of payments and finance systems.
- Proven ability for system architecture, and influencing engineering direction and product roadmap.
- Hands-on experience building platforms from ground up using resiliency patterns, observability, continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
- Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such as GO, Java, Python or C# including object-oriented design.
- Fluency with RESTful Web Services, and Event Driven Architectures.
- Experience with cloud computing tooling across the software development life cycle with fluency in devops, observability, telemetry and test automation.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on delivering results and driving continuous improvement.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and all levels of leadership.
- Experience with Finance, Billing and Payment platforms preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of professional software development experience within GO or Java framework (J2EE, web containers and Java/GO)
- 8+ years of experience with architecture and design
- 6+ years of experience in cloud-native system using CNCF frameworks
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
Annual Salary
$130,000.00 - $260,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
