  • Salary: $118,969 – $132,069 per annum, plus 17% Super and Leave Loading.

The Opportunity
At Western Sydney University, we are creating a new era for AI enablement across education, research and operations. Through this role you will join a landmark opportunity to share the future of our AI capabilities that will underpin future success and our transition to an AI-powered world, withing a people-first mindset. You will design, develop, test, deploy and support artificial intelligence solutions across Western Sydney University. Working within the Data Office, you will help translate priority AI use cases into secure, scalable and reliable technical solutions that support Western’s strategic and operational goals.

 

You will work across generative AI, agentic AI, automation and AI-enabled workflow solutions. This includes using Microsoft-based technologies and enterprise AI tools such as Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Power Platform, Azure services, APIs, data services, cloud platforms and integration technologies.

 

You will contribute hands-on engineering capability across the AI Use Case Portfolio, working with the AI Technical Lead, AI and Automation Team, IT, cyber security, data teams, academic and professional staff. You will apply strong software engineering, data science, integration and responsible AI practices to deliver practical AI solutions that are secure, governed and supportable.

 

What Success Looks Like:

  • Deliver secure, scalable AI solutions, including generative AI applications, agentic AI solutions, intelligent agents, automation workflows and reusable technical components.
  • Validate and optimise AI solutions within Microsoft-based environments, including Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Power Platform, APIs and cloud services.
  • Provide technical leadership across design, prototyping, development, testing, implementation, documentation and operational support for AI initiatives.
  • Embed responsible AI, privacy, security and governance controls into solution delivery.
  • Work effectively with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements, resolve issues and deliver fit-for-purpose AI-enabled solutions.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, software engineering, information technology, mathematics, statistics or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience developing AI, generative AI, agentic AI, automation, machine learning, data science, software or cloud-based solutions in complex organisations.
  • Advanced programming and engineering skills, including Python, SQL, APIs, JavaScript or TypeScript, cloud services, workflow automation, source control, testing frameworks and data pipelines.
  • Experience with Microsoft AI and automation technologies, preferably including Microsoft 365, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Power Platform, Azure services and enterprise data platforms.
  • Sound knowledge of responsible AI, privacy, cyber security and data governance, with the ability to apply technical controls, documentation, testing and monitoring practices.
