Chewy is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join an established technology team in Minneapolis, MN. On the Fulfillment Process Automation team, you will not just support operations. You will help shape them. We create automation tools that enable fulfillment centers to run smarter and more efficiently, working hand in hand with internal partners across the business. The expectations of the prospective candidate will be the design, development, testing, and support of software systems and related integrations. In this role, the ideal candidate will engage in development, testing, and make contributions to the growth and development of one of Chewy's fastest growing areas. This technical leader will work autonomously to design and build high complexity components and/or platforms. This individual will partner with both technical and business teams on multiple initiatives, provide guidance and mentorship to the existing team, and collaborate to deliver new features and enhancements. We continue to grow and always Think Big about new innovative ideas, while consistently exploring opportunities to differentiate ourselves in the industry.
What You'll Do:
  • Actively guide team members and participate in the definition, design, development, testing and implementation of software functionality using an agile methodology
  • Create or modify complex scalable distributed software systems.
  • Contribute to code quality requirements, provide feedback, and promote collaborative solutions for your team during code review
  • Guide team members and advise stakeholders on improvements and optimizations to features, practices, processes, and operations
  • Work with and advise both stakeholders and technology teams on how best to implement desired features and enhancements
  • Communicate project status, risks, and solutions to team and stakeholders, and act as technical point of contact to influence stakeholders regarding trade-offs
  • Ensure that technical solutions for your team follow best practices, are reliable, are easily maintainable, and are scalable under sustained load
  • Collaborate to identify, isolate, and resolve malfunctions related to software
  • Lead team members by example, advocating for best practices and influencing software engineering team hiring practices as the team continues to grow
  • Lead technical teams in the development and delivery of projects
  • Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to operational excellence

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar; or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience designing software services and/or components and architecture
  • Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Python)
  • Solid understanding of CS fundamentals: object-oriented design, algorithms, and problem solving
  • Proven success designing and delivering high-performance, distributed systems or large-scale workflows and services
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models working alongside Data Science
  • Proficiency in Terraform and Jenkins
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities at a given time
  • Must be team oriented and have a customer first mindset
  • Strong analytical abilities

Bonus (if applicable):
  • 1+ year acting in a technical lead capacity
  • Experience leading technical teams in the development and delivery of projects
  • Experience with front-end web technologies (React, Next.js, CSS3, HTML5, JSON)
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated testing
  • Familiarity with AWS cloud services including serverless computing, data processing, and storage solutions
  • Experience in e-commerce or retail

The base salary range for this role is $134,500 - $215,000.
  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.

Exempt salary team members have unlimited PTO, subject to manager approval. Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
