Summary Generated by Built In

The Platform and DevOps Team is the backbone of Vidyo’s engineering ecosystem. In addition to developing and delivering VidyoBasePlatform, our specialized operating system that powers all infrastructure production applications, this team owns and maintains the entire engineering development infrastructure. This includes build agents, CI/CD pipelines, servers, virtual machines, and other critical systems that enable our global engineering teams to operate efficiently. Our mission extends beyond maintenance—we drive innovation in automation, observability, and scalability. The team plays a pivotal role in Vidyo’s strategic shift toward a cloud-first approach, designing and optimizing tools for building, runtime operations, and monitoring. By ensuring robust security, high availability, and streamlined workflows, we empower the organization to deliver top-tier solutions with confidence and speed.
Responsibilities:

As the technical lead of Vidyo’s Platform Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing our infrastructure strategy. This is not a passive role—you will be an active driver of change, bringing clarity, structure, and innovation to everything we do. Your responsibilities include:

• Lead and Influence: Act as the technical authority for the Platform team, setting direction, mentoring engineers, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Be articulate and vocal in technical discussions, advocating for best practices while knowing when to disagree and commit.

• Own the Platform: Oversee the development and delivery of VidyoBasePlatform, our specialized operating system, and ensure its evolution to meet future needs.
• Infrastructure Stewardship: Take full ownership of our engineering development infrastructure—build agents, CI/CD pipelines, servers, virtual machines—and ensure reliability, scalability, and security.
• Drive Automation and Efficiency: Champion automation across workflows, leveraging Infrastructure as Code principles to streamline operations and reduce manual overhead.
• Cloud and Container Strategy: Lead initiatives to design, implement, and optimize containerized environments and Kubernetes clusters, both on-prem and in public cloud environments.
• Security by Design: Embed security into every layer of the platform, proactively addressing vulnerabilities, applying patches, and maintaining compliance.
• Observability and Performance: Implement robust monitoring and observability solutions to ensure proactive detection and resolution of issues in production
environments.
• Continuous Improvement: Seek opportunities to improve processes, tools, and systems. Be persistent, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering measurable impact.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.

Qualification and Experience:

• GNU/Linux Expertise: 10+ years of hands-on experience with GNU/Linux systems, demonstrating expert-level Unix system administration skills. This includes advanced shell scripting, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and a deep understanding of OS internals.

• Containerization & Kubernetes: Minimum of 4 years of production-grade experience setting up containerized environments and Kubernetes clusters from scratch in private/on-prem environments. Proven experience deploying and managing workloads in at least one public cloud environment (preferably GCP). Must have deep knowledge of Helm, including creating and configuring Helm charts for complex deployments.

• Database Administration: Advanced database administration capabilities across SQL and NoSQL systems, including performance optimization, replication strategies, backup and recovery, and troubleshooting complex issues in production environments.

• Monitoring & Observability: Demonstrated ability to implement and manage robust monitoring and observability solutions for production systems. Hands-on experience with tools such as Prometheus,Grafana, ELK stack, or similar, ensuring proactive detection and resolution of issues.

• Networking: Strong understanding of TCP/IP-based networks and the ability to troubleshoot complex networking issues using tools like Wireshark, tcpdump, and related utilities. Solid grasp of routing, DNS, DHCP, and packet analysis.

• Protocols: Practical experience with key protocols including SNMP, LDAP, SSH, TLS, and HTTP, ensuring secure and reliable communication across distributed systems.

• Security: A “secure by design” mindset from day one. Proven experience analyzing CVEs, applying timely patches, implementing ACLs, and maintaining traceability and visibility across systems. Familiarity with security frameworks and best practices for hardening infrastructure.

• Load Balancing & High Availability: Mandatory experience designing and implementing load balancing and HA solutions, preferably using HAProxy, to ensure fault tolerance and optimal performance in mission critical environments.

• Automation & CI/CD: Proficiency in infrastructure automation and CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform, and Helm. Strong focus on Infrastructure as Code principles and repeatable deployments.

• Scripting Languages: Advanced proficiency in Python and Bash for automation, orchestration, and operational tasks. Ability to write clean, maintainable scripts for complex workflows.

• Virtualization: Solid experience in virtualization and VM administration (VMware, Hyper-V).

Nice to Have:

• Hands-on experience setting up and configuring Valkey/Redis for caching and distributed systems.
• Administrative experience with Proxmox for virtualization.
• Familiarity with cloud-native PostgreSQL and advanced database clustering.
• Exposure to immutable image delivery tools (e.g., Packer).
• Experience with observability solutions for Kubernetes and containerized environments
