What You'll Do
- Develop high-quality, scalable software. You’ll relentlessly automate any manual processes and contribute to technical solution designs that embrace a quality-first approach. You'll be a role model for giving and receiving feedback in code reviews.
- Contribute to maintain the standard for engineering excellence at Xero and proactively contribute to Xero's engineering standards and frameworks. You'll work closely with Lead and Principal Engineers to apply standards to software and delivery processes.
- Efficiently assess causes and identify solutions for development or production issues , and recognise common patterns of failure to mitigate issues before they reach production. You'll proactively participate in incident responses and contribute to post-mortems.
- Coach and support engineers to ensure all software is running as expected and proactively works to prevent customer-facing problems. You will join an inclusive cross-functional team and collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering.
- Proactively maintain, grow, and share knowledge of development technologies used in Xero’s software applications. Be a proactive champion of agile and delivery practices who coaches and develops others in this space.
What You'll Bring
- Previous experience delivering high-quality software solutions at scale.
- Strong experience in full-stack development with modern technology stacks, demonstrating proficiency in a range of languages and tools, and a high degree of openness to learn new technologies. Experience in our core stack will be highly valuable: Xero's new codebases often use a microservice written in C# on .NET, utilising a variety of AWS services, running in a Docker container orchestrated by Kubernetes, and accessed by SPA written in React with TypeScript.
- Highly proficient in the architecture and implementation of distributed systems. Ability to refactor complex, monolithic systems into scalable, resilient components.
- Deep understanding of the full development lifecycle (design, implementation, testing, and deployment). Proficient with CI/CD concepts and tooling and on-call practices for proactively managing production systems.
- Proven ability to contribute to internal ecosystems, building SDKs and libraries to enable other teams to integrate with their products. Experience or interest in utilising AI tools and technologies to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach engineers, fostering growth, and effectively collaborating in a cross-functional team environment.
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
