Position Summary
The Optum Health Technology team is dedicated to empowering healthcare payers through modern, reliable, and intelligent digital interfaces. As a Sr Software Engineer, you will play a key role in building and enhancing external payer-facing user interfaces that streamline complex health data interactions and improve engagement. In addition to delivering high-performance UI components, you will build and integrate AI-powered capabilities and leverage enterprise AI tools to optimize engineering workflows and drive continuous application innovation.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain robust, scalable, and responsive user interfaces for external payer-facing web applications
- Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions and intelligent UI capabilities to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on responsible use of AI
- Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline software engineering workflows, automate routine tasks, and drive continuous improvement
- Evaluate emerging trends and AI technologies to inform solution design, front-end architecture, and strategic innovation
- Collaborate closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, and backend engineering teams to translate complex business requirements into intuitive UI features
- Drive front-end architectural decisions, code quality, web accessibility standards (WCAG compliance), and web security best practices across applications
- Develop reusable component libraries and integrate design systems to maintain UI consistency and accelerate deployment cycles
- Perform code reviews, enforce software engineering best practices, and mentor junior and mid-level software engineers

Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on web application development
- 3+ years of experience developing web applications with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue.js)
- 3+ years of experience integrating front-end applications with RESTful APIs or cloud-native microservices
- 2+ years of experience leveraging AI tools, intelligent APIs, or automated solutions to enhance application features or development workflows
- 2+ years of experience with front-end automated testing tools and frameworks (e.g., Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress)
- Demonstrated experience implementing web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and web security guidelines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing AI-enhanced user interfaces, conversational interfaces, or integrating generative AI services into web applications
- Experience in the healthcare industry, specifically working with payer workflows, portal systems, or health plan claims technologies
- Experience with micro-frontends architecture and modern state management tools (e.g., Redux, NgRx)
- Experience working in CI/CD pipelines and enterprise cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
