Position Summary
As a Senior Software Engineer within Optum Technology, you will design, build, and operate secure cloud platform services and software that meet critical business requirements. In this role, you will work across the full software development lifecycle for large-scale distributed systems, leveraging microservices architecture, event-driven design, and modern cloud technologies. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams, product management, and enterprise architecture to deliver resilient, scalable, and high-performing solutions that transform healthcare delivery.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and operate secure cloud platform services and software that align with business requirements
- Demonstrate full development lifecycle experience for large-scale software products using service-oriented architectures, design patterns, and web services
- Practice Agile solution delivery and guide engineering teams on engineering best practices, including DevOps, CI/CD, and everything-as-code
- Independently perform coding and unit testing, perform peer code reviews, and mentor junior team members
- Adhere to code quality standards and engineering best practices to deliver reliable, defect-free software
- Partner with business stakeholders and enterprise architecture teams to translate requirements into end-to-end technical solutions
- Monitor application performance parameters, debug complex issues, and resolve operational tickets within guided SLAs
- Collaborate effectively with global and offshore engineering teams to deliver features within project timelines

Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in large-scale distributed system development, including hands-on operational experience
- 6+ years of experience applying object-oriented principles and design patterns to create robust, scalable system architectures
- 6+ years of hands-on software development experience using Java/J2EE (Java 17+ preferred), Spring Boot, and RESTful Web Services
- 4+ years of experience working with microservices
- 3+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker / Kubernetes)
- 2+ years of experience working with event-driven architecture (e.g., Apache Kafka)
- 2+ years of experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit)
- 2+ years of experience in CI/CD pipeline automation and source control management (e.g., Git)
- 2+ years of experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL or similar)
- 2+ years of experience in public cloud architecture and environments (preferably Azure)
- 2+ years of engineering experience building infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field
- 1+ years of experience in AI/ML solutions, including developing or integrating AI/LLM models
- Experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., ReactJS)
- Deep expertise in DevOps toolchains, continuous testing, and automated deployment frameworks
- Experience or background in the healthcare technology domain
- Proven troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills across distributed enterprise applications
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate emerging technology trends to drive continuous improvement and strategic innovation

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
