Job DescriptionEvery Wise transfer ends with a promise: money should reach the recipient quickly, safely, and without surprises. The North America Payouts team makes that promise real for customers moving USD and CAD, building the services and partner integrations that power reliable money movement across the region. This role will lead meaningful problems from discovery through production—making payouts more instant, improving recipient experience, expanding payment reach, and strengthening reliability and compliance at scale. Success directly influences cross-border volume, payout speed, transfer quality, cost, and risk as Wise works toward money movement that is instant, convenient, transparent, and eventually free.
QualificationsKey responsibilities
- Strong product mindset, connecting engineering decisions to customer outcomes, payout volume, speed, quality, cost, and risk.
- Self-starting and collaborative approach, with the confidence to work independently, take initiative, and bring the right people together to solve problems.
- End-to-end ownership of impactful projects, from understanding the problem and shaping the solution through delivery, rollout, measurement, and long-term operation.
- Strong experience with Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot, microservices, relational databases, and well-designed APIs; experience with Kafka, event-driven systems, or cloud infrastructure is valuable.
- Sound distributed-systems judgment across asynchronous processing, idempotency, data consistency, retries, reconciliation, security, scalability, and failure recovery.
- Commitment to maintainable, well-tested software, predictable delivery, effective observability, and thoughtful operational ownership.
- Clear and adaptable communication, translating complex technical concepts for different audiences and working across teams to reach practical, well-balanced solutions.
- Positive impact beyond individual delivery through mentoring, actionable feedback, technical reviews, reusable knowledge, and reduction of single-person dependencies.
For everyone, everywhere. We're people building money without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We believe teams are strongest when they are diverse, equitable and inclusive.
We're proud to have a truly international team, and we celebrate our differences.
Inclusive teams help us live our values and make sure every Wiser feels respected, empowered to contribute towards our mission and able to progress in their careers.

Employees engage in a combination of remote and on-site work.
We expect new joiners in the office most days to build connections and learn from colleagues for their first six months. After that, most Wisers split their working week between the office and home, typically coming in at least 12 times a month.
