The Role
Design and implement a software platform that validates and accepts new hardware racks into Microsoft datacenters. Own features end-to-end, model device types and workflows, improve concurrency, reliability, observability, and automation, and collaborate with hardware, firmware, networking, manufacturing, and datacenter teams to resolve system-level issues.

Overview

The Azure Core New Tech team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to evolve the software platform that accepts new racks into Microsoft datacenters. We build the hardware acceptance software used in factories and datacenters to determine whether racks are ready for production. Our platform verifies that hardware is assembled, cabled, configured, and inventoried to meet Microsoft’s business requirements, turning diagnostic results into clear actions. This enables Microsoft to adopt new hardware quickly while maintaining quality and security across Azure, High-Performance Computing, and Office.

Our challenge is to make high-scale bring-up for rapidly evolving hardware sustainable through a software-driven acceptance process that keeps pace with growing cloud demand. New hardware programs begin with evolving requirements and dependencies across software, hardware, networking, manufacturing, and datacenter teams. The platform must model diverse device types and rack topologies, coordinate long running and concurrent workflows, and deliver actionable results when validation failures are partial or unclear. As demand grows, we must continue to improve throughput, diagnostic clarity, and automation.
In this role, you will turn complex system and process challenges into well-designed software solutions. You will own features from requirements discovery through implementation, testing, rollout, production monitoring, and refinement. You will work primarily in managed code (C#), build platform capabilities and partner integrations, and validate designs using simulation and real hardware. You will also partner across teams to drive ambiguous technical work to completion.
This is a software product role, not a low-level firmware development role. Datacenter hardware experience is highly valuable but not required. We are looking for engineers with strong architecture skills, systems thinking, and experience owning complex production workflows.
This opportunity offers the chance to build software for the newest hardware platforms entering Microsoft’s cloud, with end-to-end ownership, real-world consequences, and visible impact. The team supports a flexible working environment, including remote access to hardware when needed.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

  • Use operational data to identify systemic issues, reduce manual toil, improve diagnostic quality, and shorten end-to-end delivery time.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, networking, firmware, driver, manufacturing, and datacenter teams to resolve system-level problems and define clear integration contracts.
