Job Summary:
Join the CAT Interact team of CAT Digital that is responsible for providing a seamless way for our customers to communicate and connect on asset maintenance, repairs and work orders. Our product is written in Ruby on Rails and enhances customer experience with real time status update via 2-way messaging.
What You Will Do:
- Designing, modifying, developing, writing and implementing software programming applications for target system using agile methods.
- Acquiring client requirements; resolving workflow problems through automation optimization.
- Writing source codes for new applications, and/or generating and enhancing code samples for existing applications.
- Mentor and assist software engineers, providing technical assistance and direction as needed
- Utilizing automated testing tools to perform the testing and maintenance.
What You Will Have:
- Software Development: Extensive experience with Ruby on Rails software development tools and activities; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements.
- Software Development Life Cycle: Extensive knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.
- Software Integration Engineering : Extensive knowledge of software integration processes and functions; ability to design, develop and maintain interfaces and linkage to alternative platforms and software packages.
- Effective Communications: Extensive knowledge of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
- Software Product Testing : Extensive knowledge of software product testing; ability to design, plan, and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure software product quality and adherence to stated requirements.
Considerations for Top Candidates:
- Experience with Ruby on Rails (typically 3+ years)
- Extensive experience designing, developing, deploying and maintaining software at scale (typically 6+ years).
- Datastores such as Redis, ElastiCache, PostgreSQL
- Developing software applications using relational databases.
- Deploying software using CI/CD tools such as Github Actions, Jenkins, GoCD, Azure Devops etc.
- Strong proficiency with Rails development tools such as Bundler and Rake
- Deep understanding of Active Record associations and ability to construct performant, complex queries
- Experience deploying and maintaining software using public clouds such as AWS or Azure (typically 2+ years).
- Working within an Agile framework (ideally Scrum).
- Debugging and maintaining software in a Linux or Unix environment.
- API tools such as Swagger, Postman and Assertible
- Testing tools such as RSpec, minitest or Cucumber and their integration into CI/CD pipelines
- Passion for technology and innovation.
- Background processing systems such as Sidekiq, Resque or DelayedJob
- Front end development experience with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular or React
- Experience in .NET core desirable

Additional Information:
This position has the option to be based out of either our Chicago, IL; Peoria, IL, Irving, TX or Broomfield, CO offices with a flexible hybrid work environment.

Summary Pay Range:
$108,360.00 - $176,040.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
