Your role is to contribute to the future of network technology at Ditto. Help us to expand and improve our core network layer and develop high performance solutions for mesh network formation amongst a wide array of devices and network technologies. Regular topics include multi-platform BLE connectivity, peer-to-peer WiFi, the design & implementation of mesh networks, and other advanced topics such as congestion control, multiplexing, and forward error correction.

- Improve and create new features for Ditto's data sync platform components
- Optimize networking protocols for low bandwidth transports – e.g., forward error correction, routing, UDP multicast, etc.
- Integrate new protocols and communication technologies into the Ditto network stack
- Test with radios or transmission systems to represent a variety of environments, including space and underwater
- Develop extensive tests to verify the correctness of our networking stack - including orchestration of physical devices and performance analysis
- Mentor and share knowledge with team members
- Model Ditto’s culture of Trust, Communication, and Continual Improvement.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or Engineering
- A strong background in network engineering and technical understanding of foundational networking concepts such as congestion control, multiplexing, packet framing, and networking protocols (TCP, UDP, QUIC, etc).
- Excellent fluency in Rust, including proficiency with:
- Asynchronous programming, including cancel safety
- Concurrency primitives and multithreading
- Unit and integration testing, with bonus points for lightweight formal methods such as property testing
- Expertise (or desire to gain expertise) with mobile development, particularly networking on modern iOS and Android devices,
- A willingness to travel (including internationally) once a quarter for company meetups.
- Strong communication skills, particularly written communication skills
- Experience working in a remote, globally distributed team.
- Experience with lightweight formal methods for software verification such as property based testing
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or equivalent qualifications.
- Experience with mesh networks, BLE, Wifi, and other mobile transports/radios (Windows, iOS, Android, Linux, etc).
- Experience with working on standards alliances or committees in the wireless or broader networking space
- Experience with networking and development across many platforms and operating systems, especially mobile.
- Experience with modern advancements in networking such as fountain codes, QUIC protocol, noise encryption framework, etc.
- Experience benchmarking, debugging and optimizing networks in the real world.
- Experience with external radios or transmission systems including space or underwater environments.
- Experience with architecting secure communications with authentication and encryption.
