Senior Software Engineer - ML/AI

Our team’s mission is to accelerate Adyen’s internal AI transformation and make critical information and insights instantly accessible so every team can make informed decisions, when and where it matters most. We build the targeted AI solutions and custom tools that our teams need to thrive, filling the critical gaps. We're looking for an entrepreneurial builder who can uncover these unique operational challenges and deliver the high-impact products that will redefine how Adyen works.

What you’ll do:

• Discover and Build: You will be an explorer within Adyen, proactively engaging with product and engineering teams to uncover their most critical challenges. You won't wait for instructions; you'll find high-impact opportunities and rapidly design and build AI prototypes (MVPs) to demonstrate value.
• Develop Strategic AI Products: You will own the end-to-end development of bespoke AI tools that solve problems unique to Adyen's scale. Whether it's optimizing merchant experience, enhancing pricing models, or improving internal workflows, you will build intelligent solutions.
• Drive the AI Roadmap: Functioning as an AI champion, you will translate ambiguous business problems into a tangible roadmap. You will own initiatives from ideation and stakeholder alignment through to deployment and impact assessment, focusing relentlessly on delivering measurable results.
• Lead and mentor: You will initiate, lead, and guide others in the full cycle of complex features or systems. You will proactively share knowledge, inspire other engineers through code reviews, and raise the bar on our software creation process within and beyond the team
• Push the Boundaries of Our Tech Stack: You will become an expert on our internal systems and external AI platforms, identifying their limits and building the custom enhancements and integrations that unlock their full potential for our specific payment-processing context.

Who you are:

• You have 5+ years of experience in a Data Science, Data Engineering, or Software Engineering role, with at least 2 years dedicated to building and deploying production-ready GenAI models.
• You possess practical experience in building and deploying RAG systems using vector databases like Pinecone, Weaviate, or Qdrant, along with deep knowledge of LLM integration, embedding models, and semantic search techniques.
• You are a technical expert proficient in Python (LangChain, LangGraph or similar), SQL, and big data frameworks (Spark, Hadoop, Kafka).
• You have a strong understanding of software engineering best practices and MLOps principles, utilizing tools like Git, Airflow, CICD, Docker, and Kubernetes to ensure robust and scalable solutions, and you are capable of leading incident response and ensuring live environment reliability.
• You are a proactive self-starter who takes initiative on projects, from initial ideation and experimentation to final deployment and iteration.
• You are an exceptional communicator, capable of translating complex data-driven insights and outcomes to a diverse range of stakeholders.
• You possess an innovative and experimental mindset, embracing a "launch fast and iterate" approach to problem-solving and product development.
• You are a champion for a data-centric culture, skilled in advocating for best practices, ensuring documentation is complete and up-to-date, and driving continuous improvement within technical teams

Challenges you could potentially tackle :

• Engineering an NLP-powered chatbot to democratize data discovery across Adyen's data landscape, enabling users to query table metadata using natural language.
• Building a knowledge management system that ingests and indexes conversations from our primary communication tool, decreasing repetitive questions and making undocumented technical solutions and business logic discoverable.
• As we are in a discovery phase, we also expect you to find your own opportunities!
