The 3D Mapping team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help develop scalable, performant, and reliable data pipelines that produce 3D map products for Zoox’s autonomous vehicle fleet. This team works with petabytes of data and ships centimeter-accurate 3D maps across several major U.S. cities.
This is a broad software engineering role and does not require a specific mapping background beyond basic knowledge of 3D geometry and math.
In this role, you will:
Develop scalable, performant, and reliable data pipelines to produce 3D map products.
Work with large-scale spatial datasets and petabytes of data to support centimeter-accurate 3D mapping.
Identify and balance performance bottlenecks across I/O, CPU, GPU, memory transfer, and distributed compute workflows.
Apply 3D geometry, matrix operations, and software engineering fundamentals to mapping pipeline development.
Build and maintain C++ and Python-based systems, including Python/C++ integration using tools such as pybind11.
Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related field.
3+ years of industry experience building production software systems, data pipelines, distributed workflows, or large-scale automation systems.
Strong C++ programming skills with solid knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
You can identify and balance different performance bottlenecks, e.g. IO, CPU, GPU, memory transfer, etc.
Basic knowledge of 3D geometry and matrix operations.
Bonus Qualifications
Python familiarity and experience with pybind11.
Experience with distributed systems, including job orchestration, distributed compute, infrastructure observability, and Docker.
Previous work on meshing algorithms or other 3D asset generation.
