The Role
THE OPPORTUNITY:
This existing vacancy is open to candidates that reside in the United States and Canada.
The Senior Software Developer helps bring our product concepts and designs to life. This individual should be a skilled front-end developer who is also well-versed in back-end technologies like Java and the Spring Framework. A keen eye for detail, creative thinking, exceptional problem-solving, and excellent communication skills are essential when working with our product team and fellow software engineers to bring product requirements to life.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities• Responsible for developing and delivering scalable, high-quality features across our product suite, ensuring alignment with UX standards and performance best practices.• Modernize existing Java-based front-ends (e.g., JSP, JQuery) to modern frameworks like React, adhering to current best practices.• Collaborate with our front-end architect(s) and UX team to integrate solutions with our cloudnative platform with a consistent user experience in mind.• Completing delegated tasks, maintaining adherence to the product roadmap schedule and sprint cadence.• Maintaining software development processes and providing code-level support for client care issues.• Maintaining a high level of product quality against requirements.• Collaborate with our backend software developers to ensure backend functionality supports frontend integrity and requirements.• Support QA analysts by tracking and addressing bugs during the testing process.• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Software Development and the VP of Technology.• Ability to project plan and prioritize resource allocation with minimal supervision.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications• Bachelor's or College Degree in Computer Science (or a related field).• 8+ years' experience as a software developer, with a primary focus on front-end development and demonstrable experience with Java.• Experience migrating legacy front-end applications from technologies like JSP and jQuery to modern frameworks such as React.• Parallel experience supporting older front-ends as necessary in maintenance mode.• Strong proficiency in Java and the Spring Framework (especially Spring Boot & Spring Web).• Skilled in building front-ends that interact with integrated systems and RESTful APIs, ensuring seamless data flow and user experience.• Energy to, or experience developing in an AI-native manner with tools like GitHub Copilot.• Ability to debug and solve complex problems with minimal oversight.• Ability to work outside standard hours for special projects on occasion.• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams including product owners, UI/UX designers, software developers, and QA analysts.• Experience developing in a modern microservices architecture.• Superb critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities.• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications• Experience with handling authentication tokens, state management, and API orchestration on the client side.• A thought leader on the evolution of front-end development practices.• Working knowledge of build tools such as Maven, NPM.• Familiarity with SQL and database concepts (e.g., MSSQL).• Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines.• Attention to detail and excellent time management skills.• Flexible and able to work within established branding and product specs.

VelocityEHS is committed to competitive, fair, and equitable compensation practices by offering market-based salary ranges. The expected salary range for this position is between $130,550 and $161,700 USD (United States) or $106,650 and $132,200 CAD (Canada). We aim to hire between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range and offers at the maximum of the range are uncommon. The final offered salary will be based on candidate's proficiency in skill set, prior relevant experience, internal equity, market considerations, and other factors. This role is eligible for our comprehensive benefits package.
