We are looking for a Senior Software Architect to join the GridBeats™ team. The GridBeats™ Software Portfolio is aggregating all Grid Automation applications which monitor, optimize and manage grid connected devices. It is a very complex and exciting portfolio which is setting the basis for grid connected devices management for the future.
The Senior Software Architect will head the Software Architecture team and will lead the integration and convergence of all GridBeats™ applications into a single coherent architecture and common software development practices.Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities:Architecture Strategy & Roadmap:
- Define and maintain the long-term software architecture roadmap across the GridBeats™ portfolio, including system convergence, platform strategy, and technology evolution.
- Drive the transition from multiple independent applications towards a coherent platform architecture with shared services, common interfaces, and standardized technologies.
- Evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and architectural approaches and guide their adoption where appropriate.
- Define system boundaries, interface contracts, data ownership, and communication patterns between applications and embedded devices.
- Ensure interoperability and integration between embedded software, firmware, middleware, backend systems, analytics platforms, and other GE applications.
- Establish guidelines for APIs, data models, communication protocols, and versioning strategies.
- Establish and lead architecture governance processes including architecture reviews, technical standards, and design guidelines.
- Ensure teams follow common architectural principles while allowing appropriate team autonomy.
- Support teams in making architectural decisions and resolving cross-team technical dependencies.
- Drive development of shared platforms, libraries, and common services to reduce duplication and improve maintainability across the portfolio.
- Define and promote reusable components and common development frameworks.
- Ensure systems are designed for reliability, scalability, maintainability, cybersecurity, and testability.
- Work closely with QA, Systems Engineering, and Cybersecurity teams to ensure architecture supports verification, validation, and compliance requirements.
- Define migration strategies for legacy systems and ensure backward compatibility and controlled system evolution.
- Support teams in refactoring, system modernization, and technical debt reduction strategies.
- Demonstrated senior‑level experience in software engineering, with a solid track record as a software architect.
- Comprehensive knowledge of software design principles, patterns, and best practices
- Experience with multiple programming languages and frameworks such as Java, C++, C#, Python and JavaScript
- Proven problem-solving and analysis skills
- Intimate knowledge with IEC64223 and other relevant cybersecurity related
- Familiarity with IEC 61850 Data model
- Experience defining architecture for large-scale, distributed, or embedded software systems.
- Experience integrating embedded systems with backend/cloud or enterprise software platforms.
- Experience defining APIs, system interfaces, and data models across multiple systems.
- Experience with system evolution, migration strategies, and technical debt management.
- Experience working with CI/CD, DevOps practices, and modern software development toolchains.
- Understanding of cybersecurity architecture and secure software design.
- Experience working in industrial, embedded, or safety-critical environments is highly desirable standards.
