About the Role
Homey is a property conveyancing platform built on a mature Ruby on Rails monolith. We are looking for a Senior Software Architect to lead the technical direction of the platform, improve system design, reduce technical debt, and ensure scalability, performance, and security as we grow. You will work closely with product and engineering teams to design solutions, guide architectural decisions, and maintain high engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain system architecture and technical standards
- Review and design solutions for new features and integrations
- Improve code quality, performance, and scalability
- Guide large refactors and safe data migrations
- Ensure secure handling of payments and sensitive data
- Mentor engineers and support technical decision-making
Requirements
- 15+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years in an architecture or principal-level role
- Strong experience with Ruby on Rails (or similar backend frameworks)
- Solid understanding of PostgreSQL, schema design, and performance optimisation
- Experience with APIs, background jobs, and third-party integrations (e.g., payments)
- Strong knowledge of system design, scalability, and technical trade-offs
- Experience working with large, complex production systems
- Clear communication and leadership skills
