Job DescriptionThe Senior Scientist, R&D will provide technical assistance and leadership to the R&D group for product development in the areas of molecular biology, nucleic acid amplification, and Next Generation Sequencing. Experience in design transfer with targeted goals in building robust processes for sustainable production of Enzymes, NGS workflows, and instrumentation is highly desirable. This individual must have the ability to multi-task while maintaining precise documentation of experiments performed.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Perform techniques related to Next Generation Sequencing in support of product development
- Perform amplification techniques (qPCR, RT-qPCR, isothermal amplification) in support of product development
- Perform protein purification scheme development in support of technical feasibility and new product development
- Serve as technical partner or lead on cross-functional projects focused on new product development or design transfer
- Perform standard molecular biology techniques (DNA extraction/purification, PCR, cloning) in support of product development and standard microbiology techniques (aseptic technique, inoculation, bacterial growth)
- Process and record experimental data and results
- Effectively communicate results to members of R&D
- Contribute to technical teams by meeting defined project objectives in a manner consistent with our product development process
- Deliver high-quality product development documentation consistent with ISO 13485
- Conscientiously learn requirements of the ISO 13485 quality management system and diligently follow the terms of a quality contract, which describes the relevance and importance of the employee’s work to the achievement of LGC’s quality objectives
- Adhere to company Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) policy
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant life sciences field (molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, etc.)
- Proven ability to become adept at the development and implementation of new technologies and technical processes that improve the quality, efficiency, and/or operationalization of products and/or laboratory services
- Experience in planning, executing, and transferring sustainable processes to production teams through rigorous R&D product development
- Demonstrated experience participating or leading cross-functional projects as a technical partner or SME
- Experience in QC method development with planned transfer into manufacturing
- Demonstrated experience in successful, strong cross-functional collaborations with key stakeholders in Process Development, Manufacturing, and Quality Assurance
- Excellent quantitative skills and demonstrated application of complex experimental and statistical methods
- General computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft office: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in relevant field and 6+ years of lab experience in all or some of the defined focus areas: amplification, molecular biology, protein purification and next generation sequencing.
- A fundamental understanding of the principles and applications of protein biochemistry
- Demonstrated experience in enzyme assay development
- Experience with analyzing complex data using statistical software (JMP, Minitab, etc.)
- Experience working in a regulated product development and manufacturing environment (ISO13485, GLP, GMP)
