Company Summary

FL106 Inc. is a privately held, early-stage biotechnology company focused on developing novel drug delivery modalities. FL106 is backed by Flagship Pioneering, which provides the strategic vision and resources to advance FL106 from platform validation to clinical impact.

Position Summary

We are seeking a (senior) scientist with strong hands-on expertise in protein engineering and working knowledge of AI/ML tools. This candidate will engineer proteins and antibodies both at the bench and in silico for the design of delivery modalities. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative start-up environment and is eager to contribute directly to FL106’s scientific platform.

Responsibilities

  • Design and experimentally test novel protein scaffolds, leveraging structural modeling, rational design, and/or directed evolution
  • Execute hands-on protein production, purification, and functional characterization in the lab
  • Stay current with computational protein design to inform design strategies and implement emerging technologies
  • Collaborate with companies in the Flagship ecosystem to evaluate and integrate novel ML models relevant to FL106’s design principles
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the computational team and help shape FL106’s design platform
  • Identify and lead external research collaborations with academic and commercial partners
  • Report results clearly to the scientific team and Flagship Pioneering management

Key Qualifications

  • Ph.D. (with 2+ years of industry experience) or Masters (10+ years of industry experience) in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, computational protein design, computational biology, or a related field
  • Proven track record of drug development in the form of patents and first author publications.
  • Hands-on experience in protein production, purification, and biophysical characterization — candidates without direct bench experience will not be considered
  • Expertise in protein engineering, structural biology, and structural modeling/visualization
  • Experience with SPR, ITC, KinExa, and related techniques
  • Experience designing antibodies, nanobodies, and therapeutic proteins
  • Proficiency with ML tools for computational protein design (e.g., AlphaFold, RosettaFold, ESMFold, ProteinMPNN, RFDiffusion, Chroma, IgFold, DeepAb, Parapred)
  • Ability to move fluidly between technical detail and high-level strategic context
  • Strong communicator and collaborative team player with keen attention to detail
