Experience

10+ years of experience in commercial construction with direct responsibility for developing, managing, and analyzing CPM schedules. Candidates should possess significant field operations and/or project management experience and demonstrate the ability to independently create detailed project schedules from conceptual information, construction documents, and limited project team input. Experience scheduling K-12 educational, commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or other large-scale construction projects is preferred.

Summary

The Senior Construction Scheduler serves as Pogue Construction's scheduling subject matter expert and is responsible for independently developing, maintaining, and analyzing comprehensive project schedules throughout all phases of construction. This individual must possess a strong understanding of construction means, methods, sequencing, and project execution, allowing them to create accurate schedules with limited direction from project teams. The Senior Scheduler partners with executive leadership, preconstruction, project management, and field operations to proactively identify schedule risks, evaluate project impacts, and develop recovery strategies that support successful project delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Proficiently read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Independently develop complete CPM schedules from construction documents with minimal support from project teams.
  • Develop preliminary and conceptual schedules from schematic designs, conceptual drawings, narratives, or limited project information.
  • Establish logical activity durations, relationships, and sequencing based on construction expertise and industry best practices.
  • Evaluate construction means and methods to develop realistic and achievable schedules.
  • Lead scheduling efforts on Pogue's largest, most complex, or highest-risk projects.
  • Provide schedule guidance and recommendations to project managers and superintendents throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Analyze project delays, disruptions, and scope changes and provide schedule recovery recommendations.
  • Develop recovery schedules, mitigation plans, and alternative sequencing strategies to maintain project milestones.
  • Support project teams with schedule impact evaluations resulting from owner changes, weather events, procurement issues, or unforeseen conditions.

Required Skills / Expectations

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial construction experience with substantial exposure to field operations, project management, or project controls.
  • Ability to independently create complete CPM schedules without relying on superintendent or project manager input.
  • Ability to develop schedules from conceptual designs, limited project information, and early-stage planning documents.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Project.
  • Expert understanding of activity durations, logic ties, float management, and critical path methodology.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing and coordination across all major trades.
  • Proven ability to identify schedule risks and proactively develop mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Ability to evaluate project changes and delays and communicate schedule impacts to project teams and leadership.
  • Working knowledge of construction means, methods, and field operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with superintendents, project managers, owners, architects, and subcontractors.
  • Strong contract document, drawing, and specification comprehension.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple project schedules simultaneously.
  • Commitment to continual professional development and industry education.

Certifications

  • OSHA 30 (Required)
  • Scheduling or Project Controls certifications preferred (e.g., PMI-SP, PSP, CCM)

Skills Required

  • 10+ years construction operations experience with direct responsibility for developing, managing, and auditing complex construction schedules (including K-12 projects)
  • Minimum years as a Senior Scheduler on K-12 educational construction projects (senior-level K-12 scheduling experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • Expert-level knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Project
  • Proficiency with plan review platforms (e.g., PlanGrid) and submittal tracking systems
  • Deep understanding of construction sequencing across all major trades
  • Familiarity with K-12 construction constraints (occupied campus phasing, summer shutdowns, district milestones)
  • Ability to read plans and build schedules from plans with minimal support
  • Strong contract, plan, and specification comprehension
  • Ability to identify schedule risks, lead impact analysis, recovery planning, and mitigation strategies
  • Experience preparing and reviewing fragment schedules and time impact analyses for claims or extension requests
  • Proven leadership, mentorship, and collaboration skills (mentoring schedulers, PMs, superintendents)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to present clear schedule reporting to executive leadership
  • Minimum 20 hours of continued education annually
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Scheduling or Project Controls certifications (e.g., PMI-SP, PSP, CCM)
