The Opportunity at Altana
As we scale our logistics business, we are hiring a Senior Sales Engineer to be the technical lead on Altana’s work with logistics service providers and customs brokers. Following our acquisition of Cervo, our product surface now spans transaction screening, shared product catalog, duty calculation, post-entry audit, and agentic entry writing, and the deals that win are the ones where someone can map a broker’s actual entry-writing workflow today, show them what it looks like on Altana, and prove the integration path is real. You’ll own that work: demos, solution design, architecture conversations, and the technical narrative that carries a deal from first call to signed order form.
You’ll partner closely with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Implementation, and act as the voice of the customer back to our product and engineering teams. This is a high-leverage hire on a fast-moving vertical.
You Will
- Achieve mastery of the full Altana product surface area and run demos that hold up with brokerage operations staff, IT leadership, and executive buyers alike, whether it’s an impromptu whiteboard session or a prepared narrative demo
- Design solutions for complex customer environments, mapping current-state operational workflows to a credible future state on Altana, and documenting the gap between them in terms a customer recognizes as their own business
- Speak fluently to the technical architecture of the platform: data models, APIs, EDI and file-based integration patterns, and how Altana lands inside the systems logistics providers already run
- Serve as the bridge between the commercial and product organizations, translating field reality into product input and product direction into field-ready positioning
- Support the sales process with new and existing customers in the customs and trade space, identifying use cases that address stakeholder needs before they’ve been articulated
- Contribute to the Altana product development process in collaboration with product managers, data scientists, engineers, and customer-facing stakeholders
About You
- 5+ years in pre-sales engineering, solutions consulting, or solution architecture, selling technical software into trade, customs, logistics, or enterprise supply chain
- Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to both technical and executive audiences
- A track record of current-state to future-state workflow design on genuinely complex, multi-stakeholder operational processes
- Working fluency in systems architecture and integration: APIs, EDI, file-based transfer, and data modeling, with enough depth to hold your own with a customer’s IT team
- The ability to correlate a customer’s specific business problems with Altana’s solutions
- Customs brokerage or freight forwarding operations experience is a strong plus, including familiarity with ABI, CargoWise, NetCHB, or HTS classification workflows
- You possess a passion for tackling complex challenges within global trade
- Nice to Haves:
- You prototype. You can stand up a rough working artifact using modern AI tooling, notebooks, or low-code and put it in front of a prospect to shorten the feature feedback loop
- Experience capturing voice of customer in a structured way and translating it into product input, primarily from prospects and secondarily from live accounts
- Exposure to agentic or AI-assisted automation in a live operational setting
This role is based in New York or Washington, DC with hybrid work flexibility.
Salary Ranges and Benefits
New York City: $155,000 - $185,000 USD
Washington, DC: $150,000 - $175,000 USD
The salary range, to the extent specified for this role, is a good faith statement of the minimum and maximum levels of the annual based salary for the position. The base salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on a wide range of compensation factors, including, but not limited to, work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full time offers; and are considered part of Altana's total compensation package. Altana also offers either a discretionary bonus or a variable compensation plan depending on the role. Additionally, Altana offers top-tier benefits for full-time employees, including:
