What we need
We are looking for an Advanced Robotics Test Engineer, Electrical, to join our Robotics Test Engineering team within our Hardware Engineering organization. Your job will be to develop test fixtures, create validation strategies, and execute reliability testing for electronic subsystems used in Symbotic’s mobile robot platforms. This role plays a critical part in ensuring new hardware designs meet performance, safety, and durability standards before deployment at scale.
What we do
The Robotics Test Engineering team is part of our Hardware Engineering organization, which is responsible for designing, validating, and delivering the robotic systems that power Symbotic’s warehouse automation platform. This team provides structured verification, reliability testing, and root cause analysis across critical robotic subsystems to ensure products are production-ready, scalable, and dependable in real-world operating environments. Robotics Test Engineering works closely with Electrical, Mechanical, Firmware, and Supplier teams to accelerate product maturity and reduce field risk.
What you’ll do
Design, develop, and maintain test fixtures for electronic subsystems across Symbotic mobile robot platforms, including improving legacy fixtures and building new solutions
Author and execute comprehensive test plans to validate electrical subsystem performance, reliability, and safety requirements
Lead and support HALT, HASS, accelerated aging, and other stress testing activities to identify failure modes and improve durability
Operate lab equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, and electronic loads to perform characterization and validation testing
Develop Python scripts to automate robot operation, data capture, measurement logging, and test execution workflows
Apply knowledge of CAN protocols and functional safety systems to evaluate subsystem behavior under normal and stressed operating conditions
Partner cross-functionally with engineering teams and external suppliers to investigate failures, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
What you’ll need
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline
Minimum of 5 years of experience in electronics testing, validation engineering, reliability engineering, or similar hardware-focused role
Hands-on experience with HALT, HASS, accelerated aging, and other reliability test methodologies for electronic systems
Strong proficiency using electrical lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and electronic loads
Experience reading electrical schematics and PCB designs (Altium experience preferred) for debugging and validation work
Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data logging in a lab or test environment
Familiarity with CAN bus protocols, functional safety systems, FMEA processes, and structured root cause analysis methods
Additional requirements:
Fully onsite, 5 days per week, in a lab and warehouse environment
Less than 10% travel may be required for supplier visits or support at other locations
Ability to stand, walk, lift test equipment, and work safely around mobile robotic systems and automated equipment.
Our environment
Up to 10% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
