Are you passionate about driving robotic solutions through artificial intelligence?
We are in search of an experienced, motivated, inquisitive, and results-oriented individual to drive the design of the robotic system in our newly formed AgTech department. ZEISS started a large strategic initiative to leverage our capabilities to bring robotic solutions to high-end greenhouses, with an initial focus on labor automation. Therefore, we established a dedicated team to drive this effort with a start-up like mindset within ZEISS.
As the selected candidate, you will play a crucial role in driving the technology and product development activities, and in overseeing system design and integration. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is essential combined with a strong focus on customer-oriented product development and hands-on mentality.
Primary responsibilities include:

Develop and implement full system design, integration and technology strategy

Define, establish and oversee technical interfaces to allow integration of robotic arms, mobile platforms, sensors and vision systems

Provide technical guidance to R&D teams, steer activities, and ensure alignment of all technical efforts

Translate customer needs into technical requirements

Oversee product development and closely collaborate with business development

Guide development from prototype to MVP to final product

Manage cooperation with technical partners and suppliers

Scouting and evaluation of new technologies or solutions from competitors

Support definition of IP strategy

Support recruiting of tech talent and onboarding

Support and shape the overall vision for AgTech at ZEISS
We are looking to fill this role in either Oberkochen or Karlsruhe and offer a flexible hybrid work model at both locations.
Your Profile

A degree with excellent grades in natural sciences or engineering, - PhD or MBA as a plus

Experience with robotics systems as a senior robotics engineer with focus on automation and machine learning gained during the last 7 years

Proven track record in designing systems that combine AI/ML and robotics in a fast-paced environment (e.g. Start-Up), experience in image processing is a plus

Able to setup a system control platform and integrate different features like robotic arm, sensors and vision systems

Deep technical expertise and curiosity to keep track with new innovations and how they can be applied for our products

Experience in leading and steering complex technical projects as a project manager

Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the aptitude to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders

Keen interest in investigating complex problems and drive labor automation solutions

A resourceful team player with a willingness to help others succeed

Proficiency in English, both in written and spoken communication. German is a plus
