Acuity is seeking a Senior Risk Control Consultant to conduct risk assessments and surveys for the Commercial Underwriting Department, preparing detailed survey reports and providing expert risk control guidance to policyholders and agents. In this role, you will identify loss exposures and recommend strategies to reduce the frequency and severity of claims, while partnering with policyholders to develop and implement customized safety and training programs. The Consultant will build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and deliver a variety of risk management services, including accident investigations, industrial hygiene surveys such as noise mapping, supervisory safety training, and participation in employee safety meetings to promote safe workplace practices. This territory will include the St. Louis, MO area.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Collects appropriate information on prospects and policyholders regarding the degree to which they conform to company underwriting standards and industry best practices. This process includes a thorough review of operations, analysis of loss history, analysis of hazards and controls, and recognition of key risk differential features.
  • Prepares objective written reports that evaluate and grade accounts in comparison to other like businesses.
  • Meets report quality, productivity and timeliness goals per company standards.
  • Conducts regular service calls to assist policyholders with their risk control efforts by helping them establish effective hazard controls. Submits recommendations for account improvement conforming to company and applicable consensus standards.
  • Effective unitization of technical resources such as M. Best, NFPA, OSHA, and DOT.
  • Exhibits a service mind-set by maintaining and distributing safety literature and supplies to current and prospective insureds.
  • Studies safety magazines, publications, and company distributed directives.
  • Assists in safety meetings and/or supervisory training sessions at policyholder’s locations.
  • Develops in-depth knowledge of insureds’ needs by use of risk control talent and ability to investigate exposures and hazards of all lines of coverages.
  • Maintains contacts with agency personnel in their territory.
  • Actively participates in personal developmental activities to expand technical knowledge and to stay current on industry topics. Seeks learning opportunities in areas outside of their technical expertise.
  • Be available to travel throughout the assigned territory as well as occasional travel to other territories as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record to operate a corporate vehicle.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: 

A college degree from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Safety, Engineering, Science or other acceptable curriculum or equivalent. CSP, ALCM, CFPS or similar professional designations are preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 

Ten years experience in risk control with a multi-line insurance company.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Ability to work well with policyholders, prospects, agents, and company personnel.
  • Must display superior written and verbal communication skills when working with policy holders, prospects, agents, and company personnel.
  • Have strong PC skills.
  • Current Acuity Risk Control Consultants must maintain above average productivity, quality, and timeliness for at least the past two years.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of all applicable codes and standards.
  • Must be proficient in the handling of basic industrial hygiene monitoring equipment, specifically dosimeters.
  • Must demonstrate leadership qualities in the majority of the following areas:
    • the ability to train other risk control consultants.
    • the initiative to voluntarily present educational topics at department meetings.
    • the aptitude and ability to contribute constructive suggestions and meaningful feedback to improve efficiency.
    • the continual display of support for company decisions and directives.
    • the meaningful participation in customer focus teams.
