About The Role
As a Senior RF Engineer, the candidate will support the design, deployment and optimisation of our wireless mobile solutions across the HS2 project. The Senior RF Engineer will work in a multi-discipline design team to create solutions that meet customers’ needs. You will create the cellular RF design of major transport hubs serving millions of passengers every year.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carry out physical and virtual RF and Design Surveys for inbuilding DAS infrastructure.
- Perform RF modelling, link budgets and design using iBWave and other planning tools.
- Review results, drawings and reports conducted by others.
- Set design criteria/requirements and perform system dimensioning, link budget and traffic analysis.
- Create low level designs including Bills of Materials, cable schedules and detailed system configuration diagrams, ensuring costs are closely controlled throughout the design process.
- Understand the wider context of the design and ensure external interfaces are considered working with other team members to implement an integrated design.
- Ensure designs are dimensioned for current demand and scalable to adapt for future growth and changes in MNO requirements.
- Participate in equipment co-ordination sessions with HS2 stakeholders and partners ensuring the needs of the RF design are represented in decision-making and minimise design change.
- Participate in MNO review sessions being able to present the design and provide justification for the design and technical decisions.
- Complete RAMS and abide by company H&S policy.
- Work with project managers and co-ordinators to deliver projects on time and on budget.
- Liaise with customers, presenting designs to clients, stakeholders and project teams.
- Complete any Handover Packs, Post Integration Reports and Design Reports on agreed timescales and report templates
- Provide estimates on resources required for particular tasks.
- Updating any internal reporting system as required.
- Familiarisation of all company documentation, especially ISO procedures.
This role requires 2 days per week located in Birmingham.
What You’ll Bring
- Experience designing indoor coverage solutions including active and passive distributed antenna systems (DAS) especially for large scale high-capacity venues such as major train stations.
- Minimum iBwave certification level 2 (level 3 preferred).
- Knowledge of UK or IE mobile network architecture models and standards.
- Experience of designing DAS equipment rooms, including MNO equipment requirements, dimensioning DAS head end, and defining electrical and cooling loads.
- Knowledge of working with architects & BIM modelling teams to plan spacial co-ordination of equipment.
- Experience of testing methodologies, test tools such as scanners and test phones (TEMS, NEMO etc).
- Advanced knowledge in optimisation and performance optimisation.
- Good knowledge of Radio Link Budgets.
