Colossal is seeking a talented Senior Research Associate in the field of embryology that will be responsible for the design and execution of experiments that enable ex utero embryo development. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing in vitro support systems. This role is integral to Colossal’s mission of contributing to the conservation and de-extinction of animal species through innovative scientific and technological advancements.
**This position is in Dallas TX, with minimal periodic (10%) travel anticipated. Relocation assistance is available.**
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Independently handle and perform embryo experiments (IVF, ET, in vitro culture, cryopreservation, ESC culture, micromanipulation)
- Independently handle and perform animal experiments
- Generate, interpret, and present results to answer fundamental embryo development and gestational biology questions
- Utilize experimental findings to guide the team towards system modifications and improvements
- Critically and efficiently analyze, understand, and apply scientific research to achieve team objectives
- Occasional night and weekend work required
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Strong ability to rigorously apply the scientific method to solve scientific problems
- Ability to work independently, navigate uncertainty, and tackle complex problems with confidence
- Exceptional organization, communication and presentation abilities
- Apply statistical analysis to ensure the relevance, accuracy, and effective interpretation of data
- Advanced proficiency in laboratory environments
- High level of intellectual and technical capacity to drive creative research
- Strong ability to collaborate effectively within a team, including both teaching and learning from colleagues
- Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and a team-first mentality
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in fast-paced environments
- Some technical areas of experience that will be helpful, not all are required:
- in vitro fertilization, embryo transfer
- Cryopreservation, micromanipulation
- in vitro embryo culture, post-implantation embryo culture
- General aseptic techniques
- Organ-on-a-chip, organoid models
- Microscopy, histology, and IHC/IF
- Molecular biology/standard wet lab techniques
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from an ABET accredited program in science or related fields such as biomedical/bioengineering, biology, biophysics/biochemistry, biomaterials etc.
- 2+ years of industry or highly applied experience in embryology, preferably in Research & Development (MS may substitute for 2 years of experience)
