Description and Requirements
This role would manage the timely and accurate financial information for Management, Board of Directors, APRA and Policyholders. It would also be a valued contributor to the development and implementation of business strategy.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Produce all local regulatory reports on time and without material error on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
- Produce quarterly statutory Financial Statements for Management, Board of Directors and APRA.
- Produce year end consolidated audited statutory Financial Statements including all the notes for Management, Board of Directors and APRA.
- Prepare and co-ordinate all APRA and ABS returns on time and without material error on a quarterly and annual basis.
- Le ad annual audit, answer internal and external auditors' queries.
- Review monthly gross premium and host meeting with stakeholders: Pricing; Reinsurance; FP&A; Actuary; Group Admin.
- Review monthly Investment portfolios position, liaise with PAM (Tampa/GOSH teams), and implement derivatives accounting when required.
- Assist with the monthly and quarterly close process and Regional reporting for USGAAP reporting.
- Ensure quarterly group reporting requests are submitted on time with good quality.
- Prepare and review monthly reconciliations, as required.
- Partnering closely with the Actuarial team to provide analytical insights on business performance.
- Ensure monthly Australian journals are prepared / reviewed in a controlled manner and are free from material misstatement.
- Maintain appropriate systems of internal control.
- Coordinating and maintaining the financial/ management accounts and general ledger systems to ensure the maintenance of a common information base.
- Analysis and Implementation of new accounting standards, where required.
- Train new staff members.
- PeopleSoft journal and payment approval, CitiDirect payment approval, and other banking processes
- Participation in ad hoc projects, as required.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies Required:
- Skills and experience in Statutory and Regulatory reporting
- Good working knowledge of Australian and US GAAP accounting principles and practices;
- Ability to analyse and communicate financial information.
- Thorough knowledge of Insurance industry, Life Insurance Act and Accounting Standards.
- Computer literacy - with a sound knowledge of accounting software and spreadsheet programs.
Qualification Required:
- At least 3+ years of relevant experience in the full range of either financial and/ or management accounting activities - including general accounting, financial analysis and reports - coupled with recognised professional qualifications (CA/CPA).
Key Business Relationships:
- Internal - CEO, CFO, Financial Controller and Business Heads, Pricing; Reinsurance; FP&A; Actuary, Company Secretary; Internal Auditor; Regional Controller; Regional Tax.
- External - External Auditors, APRA, Government Officials, Bank Officials, Customers and Suppliers.
