Job Summary:
As a Senior R&D Engineer you will be a key contributor to ensuring high-quality, cost-efficient operations in our Research Models and Services and Preclinical Services operating areas. You will design and develop solutions that improve our operations, beginning with identifying opportunities, scoping and prioritizing them, designing, prototyping, and implementing solutions in partnership with Operations, Quality, and other key stakeholder groups. You will actively seek out voice of customer input and have a keen understanding of project management and lean principles.
Key Responsibilities (What you contribute)
- Rigorously capture and communicate details required for development of strategy, resource allocation, budgeting, and project prioritization.
- Design and develop mechanical and electromechanical systems and components with a focus on automation, CAD, sensors, and wireless communications systems
- Designing, procuring, and fabricating tooling and fixtures, coordinating with vendors as needed. Engage customers to collect feedback for solutions under development.
- Schedule, budget, and lead engineering projects with minimal guidance.
- Conduct feasibility testing, analyze, and report on test results providing conclusions and recommendations.
- Performing troubleshooting on new products/process problems as related to design, material, or process.
- Preparing standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community.
- Generate intellectual property through invention disclosures in pursuit of patents and trade secrets.
- Works with both internal and external clients for projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (What you're good at)
- Experience with Voice of Customer work to gather, document, and prioritize requirements specifications
- Excellent mechanical and electromechanical prototyping skills
- Proficiency creating CAD solid models, assemblies, & drawings of prototypes.
- Experience with designing, programming, modeling, and testing of automated systems and equipment to ensure code and configurations meet specifications and validation requirements strongly preferred.
- Experience applying statistical techniques/analysis, failure analysis, and reliability engineering.
- Have strong technical writing skills with experience writing Requirement Specifications (Design, Functional, User), FMEAs, SOPs and Work Instructions desired.
- Project planning/execution skills
- Oral and written communicator which includes strong documentation skills (specifications, test plans, test reports, etc.).
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 6 years required; 7 years preferred.
Pay Range: $84,300 - $141,138
