Senior R&D Engineer

At TOMRA Food, our Systems & Sensors team is responsible for ensuring all machine components work seamlessly together while developing advanced vision systems that enhance sorting performance, product quality and resource efficiency.

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in turning innovative R&D concepts into reliable, market-leading machine solutions. You will:

• Lead the end-to-end design, configuration, installation and testing of sorting machines.
• Facilitate collaboration between engineering disciplines to support effective knowledge sharing and integrated solutions.
• Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams working towards shared project goals.
• Support the development of optical systems and sensor technologies to further improve inspection quality.
• Contribute to system architecture decisions, balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, reliability and sustainability.
• Drive scalable engineering approaches through the reuse of modular building blocks.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system architecture, configuration and operating procedures.
• Provide technical guidance across projects and operational activities.
• Work closely with Product Management to align technology development with product requirements.
• Collaborate with regional business units to understand market needs and support business objectives.

About You:

• Master's degree, or equivalent experience, in Engineering, Physics or a related scientific discipline.
• Experience leading technically complex, cross-functional projects.
• Experience bringing multidisciplinary teams together to achieve common objectives.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas: automation, sorting machines, vision systems, photonics, optics or spectroscopy.
• Experience using data analysis, programming or modelling tools such as Python or MATLAB.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information effectively.
• Experience working with R&D, manufacturing, supply chain and quality teams.
• Ability to work effectively in an international and culturally diverse environment.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
