A Day in the LifeAs a Senior R&D Engineer at Medtronic Articulating Technologies, you will get the opportunity to develop advanced medical devices to enable next generation endoscopic therapeutic interventions and minimally invasive surgery. Your job covers the full engineering domain of product and process development from conceptual design up to market introduction. Additionally, you bridge engineering design and intellectual property (IP) strategy, helping ensure our innovations are effectively captured and protected. In a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, you work on design, development and testing of surgical instruments and its related manufacturing processes. You improve product performance and manufacturability by designing, calculating, modelling, prototyping and testing.You are a smart, eager and result driven engineer who thinks in terms of solutions rather than problems. You present your ideas convincingly and to the point. Collaboration is in your nature, and you value different opinions and perspectives. You have strong analytical skills, and you can suggest out-of-the-box solutions. You show a strong sense of ownership. You have strong technical writing expertise to support the development, documentation, and protection of innovative technologies. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Designs, develops, analyses, troubleshoots and provides technical skills during research and/or product development
- Designs studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise
- May be involved in product research and development and/or clinical trials
- Translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products
- Improve product performance and manufacturability by designing, calculating, modelling, prototyping and testing
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering/biomedical engineering or similar
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience in engineering design, R&D, or product development
- Experience drafting or contributing to patent applications and invention disclosures
- Familiarity with international patent filing processes is preferred
- Mastering the Dutch and English language
