Senior Quality Engineer - Data Engineering

Sysco LABS Sri Lanka delivers the technology that powers Sysco’s end-to-end operations.  Sysco LABS’ enterprise technology is present in the end-to-end foodservice journey, enabling the sourcing of food products, merchandising, storage and warehouse operations, order placement and pricing algorithms, the delivery of food and supplies to Sysco’s global network and the in-restaurant dining experience of the end-customer.  

The Opportunity 

We are currently on the lookout for a Senior Quality Engineer – Data Engineering to join our team. 

Responsibilities: 

• Validating data models and dashboards against source systems to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and alignment with business rules 

• Designing and executing test strategies for data pipelines, ETL processes, and data transformations across the analytics lifecycle (from data preparation to visualization) 

• Maintaining and enhancing existing Python-based automation frameworks to support regression, validation, and edge-case testing across analytics workflows 

• Collaborating closely with Data Engineers, BI Developers, and cross-functional teams (Finance, Sales, and Purchasing domains) to identify QA coverage gaps, report issues, and ensure fixes are properly verified 

• Documenting test scenarios, outcomes, and QA verification steps for analytics datasets and dashboards 

• Conducting data integrity, transformation, and aggregation validations across data engineering and analytical layers to ensure consistent and reliable reporting outputs 

• Participating in code and design reviews to ensure testability, scalability, and performance of data pipelines 

• Supporting root cause analysis (RCA) for data issues, classifying defects by source (ETL logic, source data, schema drift), and contributing to continuous improvement 

• Contributing to QE process standardization by following Sysco-defined standard data testing practices and ensuring complete test traceability in Jira and Confluence 

• Providing technical assistance to peers and junior engineers on test strategy, query optimization, and framework usage when needed 

Requirements: 

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field 

• 3–5 years of experience in Software/Data Quality Engineering, with a strong focus on ETL and BI validation 

• Strong database and SQL skills, with the ability to optimize and troubleshoot complex queries 

• Good working knowledge of Python for automation scripting and maintaining test frameworks 

• Hands-on experience working in Agile environments, with exposure to Jira and Confluence for QE processes 

• Experience working on GCP or other cloud-based data environments is an added advantage 

• Familiarity with testing principles and concepts applied in software and data quality engineering
