The Site Quality Engineer creates value by supporting the assigned site with continuous improvement towards defect-free processes that satisfy customer needs and achieve business results.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for applicable systems related to plant customer issues such as corrective requests. Leads containment activities. Ensures products and processes meet initial and long-term quality standards (Examples: IATF, customer specific requirements, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Product Parts Approval Process (PPAP) documentation submittal etc.). Supports change management activities for current product and Value Package Introduction (VPI) by supporting verification of products and processes to ensure key measures are met and analyzing data for decision support. Supports and or leads less complex quality audits. Serves as a quality technical resource to other functional areas. Supports the prioritization of continuous improvement with cross functional key business partners by utilizing industry proven methodology (Example: Lean Manufacturing, 7 step problem solving, Intelligent Quality Tools and Methods (IQTM), etc.). Basic understanding and application to Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) core tools. May lead less complex and/or support Safe Launch initiatives through VPI. ResponsibilitiesCompetencies:

Quality Influence - Ability to recognize stakeholders, create a forum to professionally extract stakeholder perspectives, drive and engage in constructive conflict, and to influence outcomes in order to ensure Cummins makes a balanced decision inclusive of Quality priorities.

Advanced Product Quality Planning - Leads the technical quality planning and ensures customer satisfaction through structured and measurable processes as defined by industry standard.

Measurement Science - Analyzes measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science, “Metrology” e.g. Chemical, Dimensional, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical and Radiation and Physical.

Problem Solving - Solves problems and may mentor others on effective problem solving by using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and ensures actions to prevent problem reoccurrence are implemented.

Production Part Approval Process - Coordinates the level of submission of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities and information related to the introduction of new or changed products and processes; dispositions the product’s readiness for production in accordance with the Production Parts Approval Process (PPAP) and APQP provisions of Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) manuals and Cummins procedures in order to meet supplier and customer requirements.

Project Management - Establishes and maintains the balance of scope, schedule and resources for a temporary effort (a “project”). Ensures results/impact from temporary effort are fully realized as possible.

Quality Process Management - Proficient application of quality tools and methods (e.g. APQP, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, Capability studies, Process Audit, inspection, test, etc.) to ensure quality of products, processes and services.

Quality Systems Management - Utilizes the quality tools and processes to ensure the quality management system is understood, implemented, maintained, and demonstrates its ability to consistently and effectively provide products/services that meet requirements.

Statistical Foundations - Applies statistical tools and technique to influence decision making; leverages understanding of data collection methods, key statistics, graphical and analytical methods to describe process performance, gain insights and drive improvement action

Values differences - Recognizing the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.

Quality 4.0 - Leverages cloud-based systems and digitization to drive improved quality outcomes. Knowledge and application of Quality 4.0 (Q4.0) and digitization of quality management. Examples of Q4.0 are cloud native software applications, digital twin, simulation, adaptive intelligence and connected systems.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:
College, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering or a related technical or scientific subject or experience equivalent is preferred.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:
Minimal to intermediate level of relevant work experience required. Qualifications

Skills Required

  • College or university degree in Engineering or related technical/scientific subject, or equivalent experience
  • Minimal to intermediate level of relevant work experience in quality engineering
  • Practical application of APQP and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)
  • Experience with quality tools: FMEA, SPC, capability studies, process audits, inspection and test
  • Problem solving using Lean Manufacturing, 7-step methodology, 6 Sigma and IQTM
  • Knowledge of measurement science / metrology (chemical, dimensional, electrical, mechanical, optical, radiation, physical)
  • Familiarity with Quality 4.0 and digitization (cloud-native systems, digital twin, simulation, adaptive intelligence, connected systems) and use of data analysis/AI for quality improvement
  • Experience with final inspection optimization, new product qualification/certification, and quality issue tracking/continuous improvement
