JOB PURPOSE
The Quality controller in this role is responsible for ensuring high quality and consistency of coffee products through the implementation and management of rigorous quality control processes. This role involves collaborating with various departments, including procurement, production, Export, Logistics and Trade to maintain and improve the overall quality standards of the company's and client specifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
Bulking
- Responsible for taking part in bulking when required for the different grades as instructed by the Export manager.
- Issuing Bulking reports after each session
Control of Sampling/Offloading activities
- Responsible for controlling accuracy and veracity of sampling procedure done at offloading by the quality personnel,
- Ensuring regular controls and report to management in case of discrepancies and non-respect of procedure
Control of Production activities
- Monitoring and supervising production and quality personnel in charge during their shifts at various stages to ensure that reports are accurate, and that production meets the quality standard set by management
- Ensuring that checking parameters set by management are accurately in place (check of moisture, processing parameters for production, analysis methodology…)
- Collecting key data to track the quality trends in production and report at the earliest stage any non-compliances / non-conformities observed
Export sampling
- Liaise with the inspectors to ensure smooth Export operations
- Obtain reference samples of all export coffees at the point of loading
- Making sure that allocated staff respect export sampling procedures (inclusive of third parties operations)
Cup Tasting and Evaluation
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive flavor profile library for all coffee products.
- Training the staff on these aspects
Unit operations
- The Employee will further be involved in the regional coffee operations and professional Quality requirements, and this will require travels to the different units as and when needed
Night shift operations
- This role requires flexibility to work on night shifts as and when scheduled by the supervisor.
Stock control
- Ensuring that all purchases stock and export stock are matching the standards set by the company in terms of quality (for all warehouses)
Other
Any other reasonable duty as may be assigned by supervisors that is consistent with the nature of the job and its level of responsibility
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Degree in food Processing, Agriculture or any related field
- UCDA certification/License in Basic Quality Control is an added advantage
- Minimum of 4 years experience in the coffee sector
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Comfortable standing or walking for long periods of time
Skills Required
