About the opportunity
At QIAGEN, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of software solutions that support our mission of improving life through science. As a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, take ownership of quality across the software development lifecycle. You will work closely with developers, product owners, and other stakeholders in an international and cross-functional environment, you will use your analytical and problem-solving skills to identify quality risks, investigate complex issues, and drive effective solutions. This position offers the opportunity to influence quality engineering practices, mentor fellow QA engineers, and contribute to innovative healthcare and life sciences solutions from our Cluj-Napoca site, with a hybrid working model that includes 3 days onsite per week.
Your tasks include
- Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test strategies for software products.
- Lead functional, integration, system, regression, and performance testing activities.
- Design and develop scalable and maintainable automated test frameworks and test suites to improve test coverage, reliability, and efficiency.
- Design and execute end-to-end tests across UI and API layers within a microservices-based architecture.
- Collaborate with software developers, product owners, and other stakeholders to identify quality risks and define acceptance criteria.
- Analyze test results, investigate defects, identify quality risks, and contribute to root cause analysis and resolution.
- Proactively identify quality gaps and opportunities to improve testing processes, automation, and overall product quality.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, methodologies, and testing standards.
- Mentor and support team members and fellow QA engineers on testing best practices, automation approaches, and quality engineering principles.
Your profile
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- 6+ years of professional experience in software quality assurance, software testing, or quality engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience with test automation, including designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and maintainable automation frameworks.
- Such as: Selenium/Playwright, TestNg/Junit, Java/Python/C#
- Experience with API and backend testing, including REST APIs and service-to-service communication.
- Good knowledge of SQL and experience with database testing and data validation.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into CI/CD workflows.
- Experience with Git and modern version control workflows.
- Experience with defect tracking, test management, and quality reporting tools.
- Such as Jira, Zephyr, TestRail, and qTest.
- Experience leveraging AI-powered tools to improve software testing efficiency, including test case generation, test automation, defect analysis, and test documentation.
- *Working in the office, onsite, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, for 3 days per week is expected.

- Proven experience in both UI and backend testing using Java.
