Job Description - Sr Automation Engineer -QA
Job Purpose
As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable automation solutions that improve product quality and accelerate release cycles. You will collaborate with Product, Engineering, and QA teams to automate UI, API, and backend testing while contributing to automation strategy, mentoring team members, and continuously improving automation frameworks and software quality.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks using Playwright for UI, API, and database validation.
- Build reusable automation components using Page Object Model (POM) and framework best practices.
- Develop and maintain automated regression, smoke, functional, and end-to-end test suites, converting manual test cases into reliable automation where appropriate.
- Design and execute automated API tests to validate backend services and third-party integrations.
- Perform SQL-based backend data validation to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Integrate automation test suites into CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing.
- Identify, document, and track defects with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence.
- Monitor automation suite health by reducing flaky tests, improving execution stability, and maintaining test data.
- Participate in automation code reviews, mentor QA Engineers, and promote automation best practices and framework standards.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Developers, and QA teams to define acceptance criteria and improve testability.
- Contribute to test strategy, sprint planning, release planning, and production sign-off activities.
- Evaluate modern automation frameworks, AI-powered engineering tools, and process improvements to increase automation coverage, quality, and productivity.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with cloud-based test execution environments is a plus.
- Basic understanding of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) is preferred.
- Exposure to AI-powered software development and testing tools is an advantage.
- Knowledge of the Hospitality or SaaS domain is an advantage.
- Willingness to learn and adopt new automation tools, frameworks, and emerging technologies.
Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, including 3+ years of hands-on test automation in a product development environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright using JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable automation frameworks using Page Object Model (POM) or similar design patterns.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Strong experience in UI, API, and backend automation testing.
- Experience with REST API automation using Postman, Newman, or code-based API testing.
- Working knowledge of SQL for backend and database validation.
- Experience integrating automation frameworks with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Experience with Git, branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative development workflows.
- Hands-on experience with Jira, Xray, or similar test management tools.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including Functional, Regression, Smoke, Integration, End-to-End, and Risk-Based Testing.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience mentoring QA Engineers or leading automation initiatives is preferred.
- Experience using AI-powered development and testing tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, Kiro, ChatGPT, or similar) is preferred.
- Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter is an added advantage.
- Experience working in Hospitality, SaaS, or other Enterprise product environments is preferred.

Work Timings:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday and should be flexible to support different time zones ranging between 12 PM IST and 9 PM IST. The work schedule may include evening hours or weekends due to client needs as directed by the manager. This role will work in Hybrid Mode and will require at least 2 days per week in the Hyderabad office. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support job-related emergencies or client needs.
