About the role

This is a six-month contract role focused on building and embedding test automation capability across Fingermark’s Supersonic application. The role is hands-on and delivery-focused, with responsibility for designing and building a scalable test automation framework, delivering UI test automation across key Supersonic user flows, and integrating automated testing into the CI/CD pipeline to support gated deployments. Where time allows, the role may also extend into API test automation.

You’ll work closely with software architects, tech leads, and developers to design testable systems and embed automated testing across the development lifecycle. You’ll contribute directly to automation design and implementation, troubleshoot automation challenges, and help improve how testing tools, frameworks, and processes are used to support reliable software delivery.

This role also involves supporting the wider team to adopt and contribute to automation over time, helping build capability while keeping delivery moving.

The role can be based in Hawke’s Bay or remote within New Zealand. Work hours align with NZ business hours.

About you

You’re a senior QA or test automation engineer with hands-on experience delivering automated testing solutions in modern software environments. You bring a strong understanding of testing principles and enjoy working closely with engineering teams to embed quality into delivery processes.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• 5+ years’ experience in software testing, including at least 2 years focused on test automation
• Strong understanding of testing principles, methodologies, and best practices
• Experience designing and implementing automation frameworks from scratch
• Good understanding of automation patterns and scalable approaches
• Hands-on experience with modern test automation tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Playwright, Appium, or similar
• Solid experience testing modern web applications, including familiarity with React-based frontends and component-driven architectures
• Exposure to web application testing, with API test automation experience beneficial
• Strong experience integrating automation frameworks into CI/CD pipelines within Agile or DevOps environments
• Proven experience delivering automated test solutions that improve testing efficiency and coverage
• Experience supporting or mentoring others and contributing to uplift in automation capability across a team
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• A collaborative approach and interest in continuous learning
