Help grow EXP’s contaminated sites practice in British Columbia. Based in our Burnaby office, this senior role is ideal for an environmental consulting professional who can lead complex contaminated sites projects, build trusted client relationships, mentor staff, and support business growth. As part of EXP’s Environmental team, you will play a key role in delivering and expanding contaminated sites, site investigation, remediation, and regulatory services across British Columbia and Western Canada. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of environmental professionals, engineers, geoscientists, risk assessors, and technical specialists, you will provide practical, defensible, and client-focused solutions while applying strong BC regulatory expertise, sound commercial judgment, technical excellence, and collaborative leadership.

What a day at EXP could have in store for you

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of contaminated sites projects, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Stage 1 and Stage 2 Preliminary Site Investigations, Detailed Site Investigations, remediation planning, remediation implementation, monitoring, and closure reporting.
  • Develop project scopes, work plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, health and safety plans, and quality management approaches to support successful delivery.
  • Serve as the primary client contact on select projects, providing clear communication, strategic advice, and timely resolution of technical, regulatory, commercial, and stakeholder issues.
  • Prepare and review proposals, cost estimates, technical reports, remedial options analyses, remediation plans, and regulatory submissions.
  • Manage provincial and federal contaminated sites projects and support applications or submissions to the BC Ministry of Environment and Parks, including regulatory instruments such as Certificates of Compliance, Approvals in Principle, and Determinations.
  • Coordinate and review field programs, including intrusive investigations, soil, groundwater, vapour, and surface water sampling, remediation fieldwork, subcontractor management, and QA/QC review of analytical data.
  • Work collaboratively with risk assessment, hydrogeology, geotechnical, civil, building sciences, and other EXP teams to provide integrated solutions for complex sites.
  • Monitor project performance, including scope, schedule, budget, work-in-progress, invoicing, change management, margin, and client satisfaction.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate environmental professionals through technical guidance, project delivery coaching, report review, and career development support.
  • Support business development by identifying opportunities, strengthening existing client relationships, developing win strategies, and contributing to strategic growth of EXP’s Environmental practice in Western Canada.
  • Champion a strong health, safety, quality, and ethics culture on all projects.

What your experience looks like

  • University degree in engineering, geoscience, hydrogeology or a related discipline.
  • Professional registration in British Columbia, or eligibility for registration, such as P.Eng., P.Geo., P.Ag., R.P.Bio., or an equivalent relevant designation.
  • Typically, 8 to 15+ years of progressive environmental consulting experience, including significant contaminated sites assessment, remediation, and project management experience in British Columbia.
  • Strong working knowledge of the BC Contaminated Sites Regulation, related protocols and technical guidance, and applicable federal guidance such as CCME and federal contaminated sites frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects or client portfolios with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profitability.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams, subcontractors, field staff, and technical reviewers.
  • Proven ability to prepare and review high-quality technical reports, proposals, work plans, cost estimates, and client communications.
  • Strong client relationship skills, business development aptitude, and ability to advise clients on regulatory pathways, environmental risk, practical remediation strategies, and project optimization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to clients, regulators, project partners, and internal teams.
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle for site visits and project travel as required.

Experience That Would Be an Asset

  • Experience with complex brownfield redevelopment, commercial and industrial properties, transportation, municipal, federal, real estate, insurance, oil and gas, or infrastructure clients.
  • Experience coordinating or integrating human health and ecological risk assessment, vapour intrusion assessment, hydrogeology, remediation design, or construction-phase remediation oversight.
  • Experience with remedial options analysis, cost estimating, contractor procurement, construction support, and regulatory closure strategy.
  • PMP certification, project management training, or demonstrated use of formal project controls tools and processes.
  • Established local client relationships or market knowledge in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, Interior BC, or Western Canada.

This job posting is for an existing position vacancy within our organization.

The base salary range for this role is $110,000 to $130,000. This position is also eligible for the project manager incentive compensation bonus (PMIC), depending on the profitability of projects in the project manager’s portfolio. Actual compensation will be based on factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, depth of experience, professional designations, market conditions, and specific work location.
