Service Project Management Manager__
Do you want to apply your technical expertise on an international stage, work with advanced automation technologies, and help shape the future of the maritime industry? Then this is your opportunity.
At ABB Marine & Ports, we support the global maritime sector — from dredgers and research vessels to offshore installations and international shipping companies. As a Senior Project Engineer Automation, you play a central role in delivering high‑quality automation systems and ensuring optimal performance.
What will you be doing?
As a Senior Project Engineer Automation, you take the technical lead in automation projects. You work independently, make well‑considered engineering decisions, and design solutions that operate worldwide on board complex vessels and offshore installations.
Your responsibilities include:
- Transforming customer requirements into clear functional and technical design specifications
- Engineering conversions and expansions, from concept and design through on‑board commissioning
- Creating, modifying, and maintaining applications; PLC logic; and DCS, ESD, and PSS functionality, including subsystem integrations
- Preparing engineering documents such as functional descriptions, drawings, manuals, and test procedures
- Providing remote assistance in critical, though infrequent, situations when customers or colleagues encounter technical challenges
- Upholding technical quality standards, system performance, and the successful delivery of project milestones
This is a senior role in which you will have full ownership of your projects and set the technical direction.
Your team
You will join an international team of eight automation professionals. The team works in small project groups where collaboration is essential, while each member maintains clear individual responsibilities.
Your primary work location is Rotterdam (George Hintzenweg).
Hybrid working is possible, with more on‑site presence during the onboarding period.
Who are you?
You are an experienced engineer who enjoys technical depth, takes ownership, and works independently in a project‑driven environment. You bring structure, accountability, and a proactive mindset.
You also have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, or Information Technology
- At least seven years of experience in project engineering and process automation
- A hands‑on approach and a strong sense of responsibility
- Clear communication skills and a customer‑oriented mindset
- Proficiency in English (Dutch is an advantage)
- A valid driver’s license (B)
- Willingness to travel occasionally for surveys, client meetings, and commissioning activities
Experience with ABB 800xA and Safety Systems is considered an asset.
What does ABB offer?
At ABB, you will work in a global, high‑tech environment where technology, teamwork, and innovation come together. You will have opportunities to deepen your expertise and grow your career, with potential progression to Project Lead Engineer and beyond.
You can expect:
- A competitive salary (job grade 13)
- A thirteenth‑month salary
- 40 days off (27 vacation days + 13 ADV)
- €250 per year contribution toward a fitness membership
- An excellent pension plan
- Flexible working hours
- A laptop and mobile phone
- International customers and highly diverse projects
- Access to global learning and development programs
