Mission of the role

ABB is looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join Automation – Process Industries, focused on the development, implementation, and support of Advanced Process Control (APC) solutions for the mining, metals, and cement industries.
In this role, you will provide technical leadership for APC projects, from process analysis and control strategy definition to configuration, testing, commissioning, optimization, and performance follow-up, ensuring operational stability, performance improvement, and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Technically lead APC projects, defining scope, schedule, methodology, and execution strategy.
Analyze industrial processes and identify opportunities for optimization, stability, and performance improvement.
Develop, configure, test, and commission advanced control strategies, including APC, MPC, control logic, and fuzzy rules.
Work on applications related to grinding, flotation, thickening, crushing, pelletizing, kilns, mills, separators, and dosing systems.
Prepare and review technical documents, functional specifications, test procedures, commissioning plans, and performance reports.
Integrate APC solutions with control systems, historians, OPC, databases, and other industrial systems.
Support installation, startup, tuning, stabilization, and performance validation together with customers.
Support technical proposals, effort estimates, scope definition, assumptions, risks, and implementation strategy.
Interface directly with customers, suppliers, and internal teams throughout project execution.
Contribute to standardization, continuous improvement, and internal APC knowledge development.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemical, Control and Automation, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Metallurgical, Mining, or related fields.
Solid experience in advanced process control, industrial automation, or process optimization in process industries.
Practical knowledge of mining and/or cement processes.
Experience in the development, implementation, testing, commissioning, and optimization of APC solutions.
Knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, regulatory loops, historians, OPC, industrial networks, and system integration.
Ability to work in multidisciplinary environments with direct interaction with customers and technical teams.
Strong communication skills, analytical thinking, organization, and technical leadership.
Nice to have
Experience with APC applied to grinding, flotation, thickening, crushing, cement kilns, vertical mills, ball mills, or separators.
Knowledge of APC/MPC, predictive control, process modeling, real-time optimization, or industrial analytics.
Experience in mining, metals, cement, chemicals, or pulp and paper industries.
Knowledge of ABB platforms, 800xA, Ability™, Expert Optimizer, DCS/PLC, and industrial historians.
Experience with technical proposals, benefit assessment, risk management, and performance validation.
English and Spanish for technical communication.
