As a Senior Program Manager on Itron’s Professional Services team, you will lead the successful delivery of Distributed Energy Management (DEM) solutions that help utilities build safer, more resilient communities. Acting as the accountable owner of customer success, you will guide programs from pre-sales scoping and definition through implementation, adoption, retention, and expansion. In partnership with customers and cross-functional teams across Sales, Services, Product, Engineering, and Support, you will ensure customers realize measurable business value, remain satisfied, and continue investing in Itron solutions. Success in this role requires a customer-centric, collaborative, authentic, and agile approach to building executive relationships, defining project requirements, and delivering successful outcomes.
You will also work closely with Marketing, Product Management, Hardware, Firmware, Software, Test, Quality, Delivery, and Support teams to advocate for customer needs and deliver innovative solutions aligned with business objectives. This role requires strong leadership, accountability, and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across globally distributed teams. The position is focused on Itron’s Distributed Energy Management portfolio, with a strong emphasis on DERMS programs and technologies. Successful candidates will bring demonstrated experience owning customer outcomes across DERMS, DSM, AMI, grid modernization, utility transformation, or related utility technology programs throughout the full lifecycle, along with strong knowledge of utility operations, customer programs, and the evolving DERMS market.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end planning and execution of complex software, hardware, and firmware programs from concept through production.
  • Lead complex customer engagements involving utility stakeholders, implementation partners, vendors, and internal delivery teams to achieve business and operational outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain integrated schedules across engineering disciplines; manage critical-path dependencies between internal teams and external partners.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that improve DEM program delivery, operational excellence, delivery scalability, forecasting accuracy, customer outcomes, and organizational maturity.
  • Build authentic relationships across all levels of the organization and provide exceptional leadership to program teams to deliver on time, within budget, and with high quality.
  • Monitor overall program health; anticipate, identify, and mitigate risks such as scope changes, resource constraints, schedule delays, and budget overruns.
  • Proactively identify and communicate program risks and mitigation strategies clearly and concisely to stakeholders and executives.
  • Facilitate effective decision-making and drive program change management processes.
  • Ensure adherence to program governance and Itron’s lifecycle standards. Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting for customer engagement programs.
  • Champion continuous improvement through process refinement, knowledge sharing, training initiatives, and strategic efforts that strengthen DEM delivery capabilities and customer success outcomes.
  • Facilitate engagement with initial customers for new product releases, ensuring robust bilateral communication.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience as a Program Manager, Delivery Lead, Technical Lead, Solution Architect, or Systems Engineer delivering complex utility technology programs.
  • Experience with DERMS, DSM, VPP, demand response, distributed energy resources, battery energy storage systems (BESS), load management, or related utility programs and technologies.
  • Experience supporting utility software applications in production environments, including release planning, issue and defect management, feature adoption, customer escalations, and cross-functional coordination with Product, Engineering, and Support teams.
  • Proven experience delivering enterprise software, SaaS, on-premises, and cloud-based solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of program and project management principles and delivery methodologies.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with globally distributed teams and foster an inclusive, collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, and Azure DevOps Services (ADS).
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • PMP Certification or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience and may vary by location. The base salary is $125,000-180,000 annually. This position is eligible for our annual bonus program.
