The Senior Planner turns customer demand and production goals into a workable manufacturing schedule. This person balances material availability, equipment capacity, labor, and lead times to keep orders moving—and adjusts the plan when priorities change.

The role works closely with Production, Procurement, Inventory, and Engineering. It calls for someone who can spot a shortage before it stops a line, make sound trade-offs under pressure, and communicate changes clearly.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer orders, forecasts, inventory levels, and manufacturing capacity.
  • Review material requirements and work with Procurement and suppliers to prevent shortages and manage lead times.
  • Monitor production progress, identify schedule risks, and coordinate recovery plans when orders, materials, or capacity change.
  • Partner with Production and Engineering to resolve bottlenecks, support new product introductions, and improve planning accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate planning data in the ERP or MRP system, including lead times, bills of materials, and inventory parameters.
  • Track performance measures such as on-time delivery, schedule adherence, inventory levels, and material availability.
  • Lead planning discussions across teams and help develop less experienced planners.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or materials planning within a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Epicor)
  • Demonstrated negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal
  • High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize competing tasks
  • Knowledge of relevant supply chain regulations and industry best practices.

 Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,500 to $112,940 based on experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity. The position may also be eligible for an annual incentive plan.

Benefits may include medical, dental, and vision coverage; retirement-plan contributions; paid time off; paid holidays; life and disability insurance; professional-development support; and other company-sponsored programs.
