Morningstar's mission is to empower investor success. Our team does this by creating products that help financial professionals and the investors they serve achieve their financial goals. The Direct Platform business is one of Morningstar's largest business units, serving a global client base across asset management, wealth management, institutional consulting, and investment research.
Morningstar Direct is our flagship investment analytics and research platform, combining trusted data, independent research, portfolio analytics, and workflow solutions to help investment professionals make better decisions with greater efficiency. Reporting is a critical part of that experience, helping clients transform analysis into clear, actionable outputs that support investment decisions, client communication, and stakeholder engagement.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior Product Marketing Manager to support the reporting solutions within Morningstar Direct. This role will lead positioning, messaging, go-to-market execution, sales enablement, and client adoption initiatives for one of the platform's most important workflow areas. Reporting is often where clients realize the value of their investment process by turning research, analysis, and insights into professional deliverables. The ideal candidate is a customer-focused storyteller who can translate product capabilities into compelling outcomes, partner closely with product and commercial teams, and drive engagement across our global client base.
Reporting to the Director of Product Marketing for Direct Software, this individual will partner closely with Product Management, UX, Campaign Marketing, Corporate Marketing, Sales, and Client Success teams. This role offers an opportunity to influence the evolution and growth of one of Morningstar's most strategic software platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop positioning, messaging, objection handling, content, and sales tools that clearly communicate the value of Morningstar Direct's reporting capabilities to different client segments and personas.
- Partner closely with Product Management and UX teams to understand reporting workflows, client needs, and product priorities, translating new capabilities into compelling customer-facing narratives.
- Craft and execute go-to-market plans for new reporting enhancements and releases, including launch strategy, enablement materials, client communications, and adoption programs.
- Deeply understand client workflows and reporting use cases through market research, client conversations, win-loss analysis, and usage insights, bringing actionable recommendations back to product and commercial teams.
- Collaborate with Sales and Client Success teams to identify common reporting challenges, competitive objections, and adoption barriers, then develop resources that improve client engagement and retention.
- Build and maintain competitive intelligence related to reporting, analytics, and portfolio management platforms, equipping client-facing teams with differentiated messaging and selling tools.
- Develop revenue-generating sales plays and adoption campaigns designed to expand platform usage, increase client value realization, and support commercial growth.
- Partner with Campaign Marketing to create persona-based programs and content that drive awareness, engagement, and demand for Morningstar Direct capabilities.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure reporting capabilities are effectively represented across product narratives, client-facing materials, digital experiences, events, webinars, and thought leadership initiatives.
- Measure and communicate the impact of product marketing initiatives through business metrics, campaign performance, platform adoption trends, and client outcomes.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in product marketing, product management, marketing, sales enablement, or a related function within financial services, fintech, software, or investment technology. We are looking for a marketer who has experience with software platforms, workflow tools, analytics solutions, or reporting applications. Familiarity with the investment management, asset management, wealth management, or institutional investing ecosystem, is a plus.
- Strong ability to communicate complex product concepts in a simple, compelling, and customer-focused manner.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders across product, sales, marketing, and client-facing teams.
- Demonstrated experience creating positioning, messaging, sales enablement materials, product launches, or adoption programs that drive measurable business outcomes.
- Experience conducting market research, win-loss analysis, competitive intelligence, or customer segmentation projects, especially to drive successful launches and drive adoption.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor content to a variety of audiences.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer-centric mindset with a passion for understanding user needs and translating insights into effective go-to-market strategies.
- Comfort using data to inform prioritization, decision-making, and performance measurement.
- Self-starter with a proven commitment to a test, learn, and iterate mindset.
- Empathy, curiosity, and the ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment.

What We Do
We are a global investment research and financial data company with 40-plus offices across North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Our products and services are used daily by individual investors, financial advisors, asset managers, retirement plan providers, and institutional investors. We provide data, research, and analysis across managed investment products, publicly listed companies, private capital markets, debt securities, and real-time global market data. The financial system can have real barriers—hidden information, friction that can slow decisions, and forces that can limit transparency and access. We work to remove them, bringing independent research, connected data, and investor-first tools to a system that needs more clarity. The people doing this work span research, technology, design, product, sales, and functional areas. We build many of our products in-house, so the work can connect directly to the tools investors use to make real financial decisions.
Why Work With Us
Imagining big things is in our blood -- it's transformed us from a company with just a few employees in 1984 to a leading independent investment research company with a worldwide presence today. As of April 2020, we acquired Sustainalytics to drive long-term meaningful outcomes for investors in the ESG space. Join us on this exciting journey!
