Frequently Asked Questions

Workload Sustainability

Workload and work-life balance can look different across teams and roles, but Morningstar aims to support employees with flexibility, trust, and time to recharge. Programs like trust-based time off, hybrid work, Work from Anywhere Days, paid sabbaticals, and leaves of absence help employees manage work alongside life’s needs.

Flexibility Options

Across most of our offices globally, employees work four days a week in the office and one day from home. We have programs designed to help support your life, not just your work, from financial tools and retirement benefits to family support and well-being resources.

  • Work from Anywhere Days: up to 15 days per year to work remotely from a location of your choice
  • Short-term life event accommodation: a temporary arrangement, typically between two weeks and three months, for employees who need to work remotely more often or adjust their schedule to manage a personal situation
  • Short-term business accommodation: a temporary arrangement, typically up to one month, for employees working non-standard business hours for a defined period

Accommodation type, duration, and location depend on individual circumstances and must align with our global compliance requirements.

Mental Health Support

Mental health resources are available to support you and your loved ones, though offerings may vary by location.

Our WELL employee resource group supports the community side: hosting events and conversations around emotional and physical wellbeing.

Mental Health Support

Morningstar takes a holistic, long‑term approach to mental health and wellbeing—one that recognizes people do their best work when they feel supported as whole humans, not just employees.

Wellbeing is built into how we design work, not treated as a separate initiative. That includes thoughtful workload planning, flexibility in how and when work gets done, and benefits and policies that support physical, emotional, and mental health across different life stages.

We focus on prevention and sustainability, not just response. Managers are expected to check in regularly, set clear priorities, and create space for open conversations about capacity and wellbeing. Employees are encouraged to take time off when they need it and to use available resources without stigma.

As part of our health and wellbeing benefits, Morningstar offers support such as:

  • Mental health coverage through medical plans, including access to counseling and therapy services
  • Employee assistance resources for confidential support with stress, emotional wellbeing, and life challenges
  • Wellbeing programs and tools that support emotional resilience and healthy habits
  • Paid time off and flexible leave options to support rest, recovery, and personal needs

These benefits sit alongside broader programs that support family care, flexibility, and long‑term balance, reinforcing Morningstar’s commitment to total wellbeing.

At its core, Morningstar’s approach to mental health is grounded in trust, respect, and empathy. We aim to create an environment where people feel supported to take care of themselves, speak up when they need help, and build a career that’s both meaningful and sustainable.

Morningstar Employee Reviews

Being on sabbatical enabled me to slow down and amble around without that ticking clock.

Some days I went to a fitness class, some days I spent a few hours at the library working through a book on world history, and other days I met up with friends for lunch. I tried to balance productive time spent pursuing goals with plenty of leisure time to read and relax.
