Are you excited to shape how AI systems, autonomous agents, and machine-driven workflows access and create value from world-leading scientific content?
Do you enjoy turning complex strategic questions into high-impact products that balance customer needs, technology, commercial opportunities, and governance considerations?
About our Team
ScienceDirect is Elsevier's flagship research discovery platform, home to more than 22 million publications across over 4,000 journals and 50,000 books. Researchers, clinicians, students and institutions around the world rely on it to find and use trusted, peer-reviewed science.
We are a data-driven, mission-driven, customer-focused team who are passionate about building solutions that solve our users' problems. We are curious, collaborative, reliable partners who work in an open environment to explore new possibilities to bring more value to the market.
About the Role
A growing share of the demand for scientific content comes from software rather than people. As a Senior Product Manager, you will help define and deliver the strategy for machine and AI access to ScienceDirect content, identifying valuable use cases and translating them into scalable products and services. You will work across product, technology, legal, and commercial teams to shape how content is accessed, governed, measured, and monetized in an evolving AI ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Play a key role in developing and maintaining the strategy for machine and AI access to Elsevier’s full content, recommending which use cases we should serve and which we should not, and building the evidence and stakeholder alignment behind those recommendations
Translate the agreed strategy into a product roadmap and lead its delivery with engineering, from discovery through to launch, selecting the right delivery mechanism (APIs, agent connectors, etc) for each use case
Lead customer discovery and controlled pilots to validate machine-to-to machine use cases and value exchange, turning what we learn into requirements and business cases
Work with legal, commercial, product and technology colleagues to shape the entitlement model and access tiers for machine use, covering entitlement, identity, metering, versioning and the ability to revoke access
Contribute to how machine usage and the value it creates are measured and reported, reflecting full text value for customers
Keep a current view of the competitive and substitution landscape across open infrastructure, publisher gateways, aggregators and AI platforms, and bring that insight into product and strategy decisions
Requirements
Proven digital product management competencies, operating at high standards, especially excelling at assessing difficult trade-offs and setting clear priorities for the product roadmap to deliver maximum value
Ability to use data and experiments to drive decision making
Experience owning API, data or developer-facing products, and a track record of shipping them successfully with engineering teams
Comfortable working with architects and engineers on data formats, content structure and delivery mechanisms, and able to translate between technical and commercial audiences
Experience contributing to commercial models such as licensing, entitlement, packaging or pricing is an advantage
Familiarity with how AI applications consume content, for example retrieval-augmented generation, agents, or text and data mining, is a plus
Superb verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with others to achieve productive results
Proven ability to influence and align stakeholders across functions without direct authority
A research or scientific background, or a strong understanding of the needs of scientists, researchers or students, is a plus
